Description UPDATE 4/7/06- Made the jump and fall faster!

Here's the new revised version, a week and two days later.

To get a grip on where I'm going with this, I decided I would crit myself before anyone else does. So here's a list of everything I can say about this piece. Keep in mind that while the original file was set to play at 30 fps, the computer automatically set it to play a bit slower than that.

PROS-
- Great sense of flow and good sense of what the character's feeling and his actions. Good personality shown throughout.
- Good overall form.
- Fly's movements are fine. Just jerky enough.

CONS-
- Follow-through of hair and clothing is too quick and jerky. I discovered that secondary actions take just as much time to move as the primary action.
- Sam's head fluxuates in size. In the first shot, when he is leaning back, it could be said that his head is smaller because of perspective, but I think that is pushing it.
- Sam's arms seem to loose and gain fat.
- Sam appears to have a severe case of Man Boobie, especially in the first shot.
- Lines are generally vibrating. This is something I need to practice working on, as I am not a good draftsman, and 2D animators don't usually focus on the line quality anyway.
- Pauses are too abrupt, fly keeps stopping when Sam stops.
- Fall may still be a bit too slow.

Dramatic improvement. The timing is much better as are Sam's reactions. Good going, this is a great example of your work. And all I can give is encouragement as you've noticed yourself everything that needs work. You have pro or teacher animators who can give this a look through? I'm sure you have, but any new ones that could offer other perspectives?

I think you can add excellent attention to clothing fluctuation among your pros category. This is fun to watch, very admirable work in my book. The character design is really cool too. How long did this thing take? I wanna know before I watch this too many times and get it in my head that I should try something like this...which I probably shouldn't, because I'd quit after three frames.

I think you've completely embodied the facial expressions worthy of a multinational picture industry made film

(on a side note... one of my friend's was laughing over my shoulder because she thought it was a "perfect embodiment if you were a cartoon" apparently it's a great drawing for more than one reason now )

This would rock the industry as a short film.

It is looking MUCH MUCH MUCH better!! No need to really critique since you've already done that for me! lol You're on the right track, that's for durn sure! I've never even animated anything, except for my tiny little smiley face thing. ugh, not even worth calling it an animation! ha!
Anyways, the only thing that STILL bugs me is the clarity of the whole thing. It's still very "pixally". Why!!!??? ((((

lol, anyways, take care! Keep on truckin'!!!

Wow... clothes are very hard to draw, let alone animate...

It's much better than the original. I see you fixed his pose at the end too, now it doesn't look so feminine for his character. Even though you've already commented on the fly's movements, I'd still think the 'buzzing around' doesn't go so well if he's suspended in one place for so long. However I was definetely focussed more on Sam this time, unlike the last reel when my attention was drawn to the fly too much. Definetely an improvement. Good work.

I really enjoyed this piece. It reminded me back when Disney took a tour of the animation movie projects they were doing, and showing the prototype of how the animation was going to flow smoothly. This piece looks very professional, and I was laughing just to see someone annoyed by a fly. It looked clean, and it would have been something when it adds background and other characters. I really enjoyed man! Keep on working on it!
