Description An excerpt from one of my college papers:

On May 7th, 1869, two locomotives from each railroad would meet for the first time at Promontory Summit Utah, although the tracks were not completed to wait for the final ceremony. The two locomotives, Number 66 form the Union Pacific, and the Central Pacific’s number 62, named Whirlwind engaged in a miniature celebration with whistles sounding and cheers from both work crews. [1] Whirlwind and the 60 were both 4-4-0s built by the Schenectady Locomotive works of Schenectady, New York in 1868.

There's a typo in the article, they said Whirlwind was number 60, Whirland was number 62.

Color is always the most difficult thing to get right with these Locomotives, my pallet is based off of a drawing done by John Ott who does very impressive loco drawings from the 19th century. As for the coal load, the newspaper clip included on the drawing says the 66 was a coal burner.

The ceremony was meant to be the fallowing day, however, there were some set backs with the arrival of both railroad's executives that would result in the completion happening on the 10th.Β
