Description What if the Pennsylvania Railroad had introduced superpower locomotives to their roster? These are a P1 Class from a K4 with an extended firebox. The U1 came from a J1 with a shorter frame with a belpaire firebox.  R3s were the first 4-8-4s on the PRR. More joined the class when several T1s were converted to make the R4s.
The inspiration for these were from www.karenparker.net/PixelMagic… suggested by  mrbill6ishere

Technically, the Pennsy T1's would be considered a Super Powered locomotive since it was a 4-4-4-4.

What do you think would be numbers for these engines?

Not sure, I would look up on a PRR roster website and see if there are any sizable gaps in the numbers or even take from the first generation diesels.

I REALLY like that 2-8-4! I might even build a model of her!

Would you mind if I drew a rendition of the gal? I'll be sure to credit you!

I once drew up a concept for a Western Maryland 2-8-4

Sure! I'll have to look up that WM 2-8-4 some time.

She's mostly C&O based... it was created back in a time when my drawing skills were sub-par, my knowledge of steam inadequate and my imagination limited. I should take a crack at the old girl again sometime!

Also, the T1s are kind of long. So I'd make them into 4-8-6s.

Um…I take it the R2 is a Northern version of the S2? If so, it fits into my universe.

My own idea was that the R2 is just a M1 with a larger firebox and ergo a bigger trailing truck. The R3 is the one based on the S2 in my AU.

One very well could be, but I haven't dug that deep into this alternate power.

Awesome! Did I inspire the decisions you made on the R2?

Actually did not see them but they are very good!

How are the 4-8-4s different from the M1?

Andrewk4 In reply to mrbill6ishere [2017-01-30 02:12:55 +0000 UTC]

Basically the only difference is the 4 wheel trailing truck, as an experimental 4-8-4. If the Pennsy continued the class further the differences would continue. The different truck could also allow the locomotives to travel over lighter track due to greater weight displacement.

I was wondering if you could try to model the Karen Parker engines now. If so thanks.

made one based on the S2 Turbine. I'd classify yours the R2, then his the R3.
