Description I took a little time off painting these past couple of weeks to just enjoy my evenings again.
This painting has had about 1 hours work every couple of days.
I found it hard to get into this one as much as the others and am keen to start something new

Thank you so much. I may put something together in a short while and let you know when it is up
Until then, I have several images that show how I approach lighting.

It looks so realistic! I have been trying to make forest pictures and I know it can be hard. Very well done! I also love the sort of 'benches' inside the trees!

I know magicians don't tell their trick but I'm wondering how do you simulate the depth of field and the bluriness of the background? Is it pure painting or do you use some bluriness tool or filter? BTW, I do admire your work, you have your own style.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AndrewMcIntoshArt In reply to yinetyang [2012-10-31 09:50:54 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, I appreciate it.

This painting was never intended to have the distance blur but the sharpness was taking away from the man and his tree. I painted all the trees on 5 different layers (not including the front most one). Each layer sat behind a full colour layer that was set to about 30% opacity (to add distance fog) When I blurred them, I used Gaussian Blur in Photoshop and blurred each layer by 3. (3,6,9,12,15)
Hope that helps

I like the faces on the cut parts of the tree, they look kind of sad. Did someone cut the trees on purpose?
