Description Hello friends! I have received a few requests to give this story a real starting point, and for the purpose of its upcoming twists and turns, I decided to go ahead and give you that. This image and the next will detail the beginning of the Conquest of Kaa that you’ve been following so lovingly. I hope you enjoy!!

“I’ve done it! I’ve finally done it!” Kaa exclaimed as he watched Baloo and Bagheera walk deeper into the jungle, their faces full of worry. He swung his head to the back of the tree to ensure that Shanti and her family were nowhere to be seen. When he as confident that he was unobserved on all sides, Kaa proudly tightened his coils around Mowgli, the former mancub, now a nineteen year old adult, that he’d ensnared after so many years of failure.

“I’ve finally got you, Mowgli,” he said with glee. Mowgli’s years among the village of men had made him chiseled and muscular, and the boyishness was all but gone from his face. In its place was a handsomeness that made Kaa’s cold blood run hot in ways he’d not felt when attempting to entrap the boy in his youth. “And what a man you are,” he added. “Honestly,” he said to the smiling boy, who was so deeply hypnotized that it didn’t matter what was said. “I don’t know whether to eat you or marry you.”

Kaa laughed and thought back through the sudden events of the afternoon. Mowgli had been rushing through the jungle, followed at a distance by his near-constant guardians Bagheera and Baloo. He had been shirtless, as he’d always preferred to be, but Mowgli’d had an urgency about him that had actually been what alerted Kaa to his presence in the jungle again. Observing from high above, Kaa had watched the young man loudly dart between bushes and over fallen branches, on a mission to get back to the man village as quickly as possible. One quickly swoop of his tail, and Mowgli had been into the tree and coiled before he’d known what was happening. His distracted urgency had allowed Kaa to get the drop on him and hypnotize his surprised prey immediately, lulling Mowgli into a grinning sleep.

”But why the rush, Mowgli? What were you doing?” Kaa asked. He turned his attention to the rolled up papers Mowgli had been carrying in his hand as he’d run. The paper was old, but seemed to shimmer in the light. He must have been in a hurry to deliver these pages to the village. A recent expedition of men had ventured quite deeply into the jungle, Kaa knew, and Mowgli had guided them much of the way. Whatever this was, it must be connected.

Kaa unrolled the papers, noting that they were a collection of detailed maps. The first, quite clearly, was a map of the jungle, but the others he did not recognize. All of the maps carried he same heading: World Gateways.

”What isss thisss, my friend?” he asked. “World Gatewaysss…? Could it be your villlage hasss dissscovered the way to the other wolrdsss?” Kaa rolled up the maps and prepared to get moving as quickly as possible.

”Let’sss go ssseee, my boy. Dinner can wait.”
