First Enchanter Liara and Knight Commander Samara - Dragon EffectI liked the dynamic between Orsino and Meredith in Dragon Age 2 with the two characters trying to fulfill they’re respective roles yet always digging at one another (esp on Meredith’s part) so I thought it would be fun to place Liara and Samara in their positions, plus asari catfights are always fun.
Samara- Since she’s so adherent to her justicar code in Mass Effect I thought seeing her as a knight commander sworn to uphold the templar code was fitting. Morinth could also come into play as the apostate daughter that Samara would spend her time hunting (when she’s not busy with official duties).
Liara- As first enchanter Liara would do her best to quell the fear and stigma associated with mages and would aid Shepard by doing what she could to cover up the fact that he’s harboring three apostates in his crew (Kaidan/Jack/Miranda) from Samara. Maybe by inventing fake phylacteries or something else more clever/plausible.
Not sure who will be next, maybe EDI/Legion or Javik/James

So, I love all your designs, I'm a huge fan now that I've seen your other stuff. But still, your Samara is my absolute favorite, it makes me wish Bioware had taken notes from you about how she should dress. It's incredible.

Wow another great edition to your collection, will you also be doing a Morinth picture, looking forward to Legion, EDI, Javik & James.
Out of curiosity will you be design any other characters from the Mass Effect franchise such as Donald Anderson, The Illusive Man, Saren to name but a few, would also be good if you can incorporate a Reaper in the form of a dragon not like a Reaper Harvester though they would make a cool sub boss like the Wyverns in Dragon Age 2.

I think it's pretty sweet, the aliens especially since even though you're not wearing sci fi garb people will recognize the heads of asari and drell and therefore get what it is you're doing.

Every pair of characters you paint are just getting better and better. I love how you incorporated Liara's costume in heir design, and that she seems to have some sort of armour underneath (at least on her legs). The purple light on her staff is lovely, and since she's got a bit of a purple/pink tint on her face and on the inside of her coat it gives a warm feel to her.
The choice to translate Samara's Justicar code instead of her biotic skill is clever, and represents her better than it would have if you'd just made her a mage. Very good choice! And this should go without saying but I saw some of the responses that she wasn't sexy anymore which is just not true. She's much more beautiful and sexy in your picture. Also love that you incorporated her red colour underneath the armour.
Glad to see you're getting the attention you deserve btw from both Bioware and others. And both your possible choices listed above for the next characters sound great, looking forward to them!

Kinda hard for me to see Samara as a Templar; since she's a powerful biotic, and biotics are like the "magic" of Mass Effects' sci-fi universe, therefore she would be a "mage" herself.....Nevertheless, this is a great pic!
I really love the Dragon Effect series of pics, and I really hope you continue to share them with us...perhaps once the main ones are finished, you could continue with all the cool NPCs (Aria, Anderson, the Council, Saren, etc.), since there are sooo many cool ones?.....Please?

templars do have some magical ability though, it's the only way they could stand a chance against full blown mages

Hmmm...I'm not saying you're wrong; just, the way I always understood it, Templars do not have magic powers, but are trained to use lyrium and certain objects (amulets, weapons, armor, etc.) which are also infused with lyrium to block or divert some of the magic which is directed at them in a Mage vs. Templar fight...Have I misread or misunderstood something?

I think it's more a matter of opinion, the dragon age wiki even states that there's a certain irony to the templars in that their own abilities could be considered a form of magic.
Making Samara a knight commander also adds more diversity to this cast, I didn't just want to do mage after mage simply because they have biotics in Mass Effect.

God these are so wonderful. Samara especially strikes me, though Liara does look really good too. As much as I love EDI and Legion, I'm going to have to vote Javik/James next. I can't WAIT to see what you do with those two!

This is pretty astounding. When I saw it on Kotaku (again, grats on the shout out) I was pretty damn speechless. Given how amazing all the pieces in this series look, I can't help but lament that you're not an Ashley Williams fan. While I will happily admit that, for reasons unknown, they made her systematically retarded for Mass Effect's 2 and 3, I really did love her in ME1.
Would be amazing to see her as an Orlesian Chevalier or Seeker (both being ardent in their critical views of Non-Humans/Believers) which would match her overall character. Regardless, this series is *beyond* exceptional, and I wish I had a stronger understanding of the artistic language so as to appropriately gush without sounding like an Ass-Kisser...

yeah funny that Kotaku keeps updating their site every time I do a new pair, it's awesome lol. But I am sorry about the Ashley thing, I know it bugs me whenever I see people ignore Kaidan like he's not part of the universe so I understand. I just want to keep it as a reflection of my own personal Dragon Effect universe.

I can both understand and respect that. Likewise, I've always loved the idea of doing things in reverse, i.e. The Warden and the other Origins characters brought into the Mass Effect Universe, and there are Origins characters I could do without in said Alternate Head-Canon Universe.

Love the series, but I think this is your weakest set so far. I would have liked to see you push the design a little further on Samara in particular. Again, great overall, but you left behind some of the Asari sex-appeal that was a fairly large part of their initial design.

Though there's something about Samara's armor that bothers me...technically but I can't quite put my finger on what.
