I always wondered why people thought Kalros taking down the Reaper was a good thing. She's organic, and her body is in complete contact with the Reaper... and dying isn't enough to stop a Reaper from indoctrinating or making husks. At the very best, there's now a Reaper corpse underground indoctrinating people that don't know about it. At the worst, a significant portion of it merges with one of the largest life forms on the planet.

Reapers can't indoctrinate people when they're completely crushed to bits. And since it's Reaper Destroyer, their equivalent of a tank, it can't transform Kalros. At worst, the Krogan will be having to dig out its bits and pieces from underground.

Dragonjek In reply to Shadow-Messenger [2016-12-13 14:37:03 +0000 UTC]

It could crush it to nonfunctionality, but not to tiny little bits (not that Kalros is aware enough of what a Reaper is capable of to actually know to do that. It's just a monolithic god-worm defending its territory). Even small pieces of Reaper tech can still cause indoctrination. Β Β

You mean a Sov-class Reaper, right? Destroyer sucks ass compared to normal Kalros, so "improved" Kalros could crush those while waiting for something to happen.

I can't help but think Kalros dragging the Reaper underground would have terrible, terrible consequences.Β  We already know destroyed Reapers can still indoctrinate.Β  And Kalros is going to get pieces of Reaper in her body, whether from trying to eat it or from it leaving pieces in her.Β  I'm pretty certain either of those would eventually kill, or completely take over, Kalros.Β  Even if Kalros is left alone, any Krogan that ever settles near the site of the Reaper's destruction will be slowly enslaved by its will... after a long enough period of time and smart use of its indoctrinated Krogan, it could bring the entire planet under its sway--not necessarily all indoctrinated, but all working towards its ends.Β  From there, taking advantage of Krogan reproduction rates over the course of several generations, it could direct the creation of a Reaper from Krogan bodies (the genophage was what disqualified the Krogan as a potential race for conversion, after all).Β

Once it does so, this lone Reaper (either a fully intelligent entity of its own accord, or a new body for the original Reaper to transfer its programming into) can leave and repeat the Collector's method of gathering bodies.Β  By taking only most of the people in a colony, and indoctrinating the rest, it can then get servants inserted into galactic civilization, which would work to find positions allowing them to cover up the Reaper's actions.Β  Over time, the Reaper would be able to create at least one more Reaper, which would allow more daring action.Β  By picking off colonies and retreating when confronted with large forces, they would eventually be able to create a small force of Reapers.Β  Utilizing their indoctrinated servant (and the following they would amass), the could instigate a galactic war, using the chaos to pick off larger planets for faster collection.Β  By carefully managing and extending the war as long as possible, they could wear down at the military forces of each side (attacking production sites and blaming another faction would accelerate this).Β  At the lowest point of the war, they act to take out the remaining military forces, and as each Reaper is easily worth a goodly number of other vessels, this would be a battle the Reapers could win (especially since they'd use tactics other than absolute, overwhelming power like the Reapers normally do when they fight).Β  With the military of the galaxy largely destroyed, most of the force would rest in groups like pirates and other criminals with money.Β  They are most definitely not going to work together well, allowing the Reapers to go harvest highly populated planets with little fear of repercussion (although they would still have to do brief, routine checks to ensure the rest of the galaxy isn't getting its shit together and making more weapons).Β  Take the stealthy approach for another three or four cycles, and they'd have enough numbers that the chance of even a ready-for-war galaxy would have little chanceΒ  of stopping them.

Of course, any of the three not-useless-suicide endings would invalidate this... but from their knowledge of what the Crucible was meant to do, they had no way to know that the Reaper would be affected inside a planet.

You're right.

Now, imagine Harbinger finally dragging his 2 km long ass into the galaxy, seeing this mess, asking who did this only to be contacted by an almost defunct Destroyer. I guess I can add that to the list of "really, REALLY rare things that can force Harbinger to show any signs of emotion" alongside Shepard fucking up his entire life.

Typhon:
After her titanic battle with a Reaper Destroyer on Tuchanka,Kalros went into hibernation once again. Unfortunately, the Reapers took notice of this event and managed to capture and convert Kalros into a gigantic modified husk of her old self, the Typhon,a namesake fitting due to her stature as the largest organic to have ever existed to date. With these new upgrades, the Typhon was outfitted with a cannon similar to a Destroyer's that was placed in the mouth region,as well as several smaller mass-accelerator emplacements running down the length of her body, all complimented by heavy armor plating across its body. Despite these enhancements, the Typhon retains the main style of attack as other Thresher Maws, rising up from below and utterly crushing any opposition. Allied forces are advise to steer clear of this massive monstrosity, and are ordered not to engage under any circumstances.
