Description Sketch of king Mithridates VI of Pontus (kingdom based on greek and persian principles, set in modern Turkey), who ruled from 120 to 63 BC.
Mithridates expanded his kingdom to whole Anatolia, Colchis and Scythia.Β
He was one of the most formidable oponents of late Roman Republic, who engaged three most prominent roman generals- Lucius Cornelius Sulla, Lucius Licinius Lucullus and Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus.
..also his death is quite legendary..

Why build an immunity to poison when you can do what the Indian rulers did and hire body doubles?

My wild guess is that Mithridates would eventually run off the doubles Β
Plus poison was very common way to die, in ancient Europe and Asia, so it seems building own immunity against it was good plan. Not so good, when you wanted to die by yourself from a poisonΒ  Β

He considered himself to be a descendant of both Cyrus the Great and Alexander. He is one of the most interesting figures during the first triumvirate, it was quite amazing how he poisoned himself with different toxins to become immune, some historian believe it is just a legend, but it still is badass

Aye but if the legend about his death is true, Mithridates had really 'bright' moment killing himself with poison, while he was poisoning himself whole time to get immunity. Needless to say, he's definitelly in my top 5 'threat to Roman Republic' list Β

Lol, yep it sure takes guts to poison oneself to get immunity!

Ah, one of the thickest thorn ever thrusted into the roman side (even if his resilience is largely to be credited to the instability of Roman authority both in Asia and Rome and the hesitations of the senate about conquering more land in Anatolia).

What he did to poor Aquilius tho, just that makes him such an appealing historical figure XP
