Wait, so there actually are people drawing Tolkien anthros? And not only that, but there are whole groups dedicated to nothing else?
Apparently I haven't been alone in my blasphemous imaginings of a mustelid Fingolfin.
That aside, very nice work. Love the crispness of the hair and tail, the cloth effects, and especially how you haven't shied away from the ruggedness of the hooves. The composition of the background could perhaps have used an extra thought with how the mountain crest cuts into the sleeve, but that's just nitpicking details.
Like how you've created a rather own take on the character. Had I worked with the same subject I'd probably have been tempted to paint her as smaller, sturdier charger, given her name and all.
Well done.

Yay! I finded a group about Anthroes Tolkien's carachters!!! And no, You're not alone in this "blasphemous" vision!!! I usually imagine novels, tales and fables in an anthro version!!!
I always imagine an anthro version of his books, probably cause I love animals at all!
I admit I need a lot of time for creating a carachter, cause I spend a lot of time for studying its details and finding the most symilar animal!!!
BtW, I'm really curious about your Fingolfin!!!
Thanks a lot! I'm really happy for your words!!! Well, I tryied to maintain the carachteristics of horses for Rohirrim, and I admit I used as inspiration steppes horses, like pzewalsky or/and akal tekè, depending on morfology...
It's funny, but this work started as a sketch, that I corrected and changed for making as a complete work....
Thanks one more time!!! You're relly too kind!

You're welcome, and thank you in return.
Unfortunately just a doodle yet, but with your encouragement I got to finish him when I get the time. Had a lot of fun - and a lot of utter confounding - imagining the characters as anthros without losing too much of the consistency of the setting.
Lupine Sauron was easy - after all, his canon title is "king of wolves" - but just as quick the elves came out as mustelids. Part because they are an old line of carnivores that is often ascribed mystical abilities, but mostly because - quite a lot like the high elves - mostly they go around being actively fearless and picking fights with much larger predators.
No wonder poor Morgoth quakes in his boots looking down and seeing the lord of all Ñoldor glaring up at him: "You're mine!"

Sorry for the long late in reply!😅
Ah!
You're right! I admit I love imagine fantasy/scify carachters as anthroes in a lot of cases! I find that really challenging!
I admit I'm working on a version of Saruman as mustelid -pheraphs I was traviated by white ferrets/ermines that sometimes look at you in a so brave way! And sometimes I see a marten that looks at me in same way Saruman has looked at Gandalf just before fight!😉
About elves I don't have a clear idea....sometimes I've imagine them as ocelots or nebulous leopards, sometimes as snow leopards...., other times as cervine creatures..... it depend on the context, I think!

Really like the idea of the elves as exotic cats and cervine in one go - while LotR takes place in fantasy Europe, it's so easy to forget how the first age elves were global. They were everywhere!
Also, in a context with musteline elves, a ferret Saruman would be plain excellent. After all, in his own words in the book, his humanity (or in the case of a ferret, domestication) is only skin-deep before the Maia - intermediary between elves and Valar - shines through. Would love to see it when it's done.

Awww! That's true! I admit I'm using a lot of time for concepting him... I don't want recreate the carachteristic used in the movie, but I want thet he will be recognizable by the contest... Is not so simple..... Too much detail to use and thngs to balance!
Many thanks for your support!!!!

If you haven't seen it, look up the 1978 film. Saruman there has a really "whiskery"appearance, with his beard swept back over his shoulders if I don't recall wrong. That Saruman is also a lot more openly volatile than Lee's. Might give some ideas.
