Lovely capture - I love how the rough horizontal lines of the wall are echoed in her shirt. And - heh, the simplicity of her gaze is indeed quite striking, and the selected contrast & exposure really does add to that. Nice work.

b/w conversion
dodged/burned/sharpened her eye.
Dodge/burned in other various places.
Nothing complicated.

For some reason, this reminds me of Dorthea Lange's Migrant Mother photograph from the Dustbowl era.
Very nice eyes.

BEAUTIFUL work.
Her eyes are fascinating and i love the contrast of her hair to the rest of the picture.
Very nice capture and the square cropping and off-center focal point works well with the horizontal stripes of the background.

Nothing I can do about that...hey, not like I was planning to take this ahead of time
But I do understand what you mean. I prefer portraits where the clothing itself is also compelling.

Awesome portrait! I love how do you give to this beautyful girl a look to a homeless girl and keeping her eyes bright and beautiful... Seems like a publicity about adopting homeless kids...
The B&W and the wood backgroud encourage the "dirty" look... Very nice one... I feel willness to adopt her, she is so pretty and looks so unprotected!

hey this is good work andrew. I love her eyes too. & the tones is good. did you convert in ps or is the tones direct out of the d200?

Andross01 In reply to CommanderDex [2006-05-23 02:31:26 +0000 UTC]
I wish the tones were direct out of the d200
I did a b&w conversion in post after desaturating it a bit in the Adobe Camera RAW editor (not complete desaturation, but a bit). I did a bit of dodge and burn, most notably on the eyes. I love b&w portraits where the eyes just pop...I applied tones via a color balance layer after a full b&w conversion.
Thanks for the fav!
