Description
When I were a wee nipper I went to see Star Wars at the cinema ( yeah I am that old ) and, as with most people of my generation who first saw it, I was hooked ( although I am not an expert in the wider universe of SW... stopped with Return Of The Jedi with me really) The earliest I can remember drawing anything was drawing scenes from Star Wars, and in particular Darth Vader and his Tie Fighter. I know I am not alone in saying this, but I would credit Star Wars as being the reason I got into drawing. So this is a dedication to good old DarthWIP - [link]

Thanks for looking
* I may try and do a tutorial on how to get that reflective smooth surface of the helmet at some point, as it is easier than it looks and can look really effective.
*added the codpiece. I intentionally left it out originally but it only served to make that belt look too high.
Sorry, watermark added due to art theft and prints being sold on ebay. I will try and get around to adding my own.

Haha! this is great Andy! Real great!
Dont know why but this one surprised me. Glad you are a StarWars fan.
Maybe hes a bit to tall, thinking his feet are not visible.
Well done with reflections!

Stefan, yeah I thought he was too tall from the beginning but left it like that as I kind of liked it, like he is rising from nowhere.
Cheers my man

Although it's not an action pose, it still comes off as dramatic. And that is a good thing - Vader maintains that sense of foreboding. Very awesome job with the details.

a great example of a movie character didnot need to show his face to be famous (yep you who have unmasked The Phantom, Judge Dredd etc in the first 5 mins of the movie, should learn a thing or two)
and your art is beautiful as always man
missed that sensation i get when i look at your art
and the reflections on the helmet certainly brought them in full force
great job man
loved it

That just the blue from the background? It's really effective and I keep on looking at it, going "there must be more to it than that; it's a black helmet. But if I just look without trying to think etc. I swear I see blue shapes.

AndyFairhurst In reply to exquisiteoath [2010-11-04 21:40:42 +0000 UTC]
yeah it is like a bluish white from the background. I am like that sometimes when I stare at something white and I can't tell if it is white or chrome.

I don't know about you but I'm often confused by metals, and I've spent many hours trying to tease out all the colours in highly refractive surfaces. I think you've really neatly executed it here though.
