I never really understood the argument that people had about her being a Mary Sue. I think it's an issue of the fact that they wanted to pair the Doctor with Sarah Jane Smith. So, in other words, haters gonna hate, right?

Personally, I think it's because of the fact that people can say whatever they want with impunity and ignoring all empathy and the fact that there's an actual person on the other side of the screen.
