I used elephant skin textures ( set oon overlay at low opacity ) from cgtextures.com . I did try toad skin but it didn't look quite right.

Really love this piece! In fact love the gallery all together!! But Venom and Carnage are next level work, really great texture

I have just started out doing exactly the same thing, super hero's, so far just Spidey and The Flash. Would be great if you took a look.
