Description
4 years on, here is my revised version of Aragorn and Arwen in their early days of courting in the gardens of Imladris.Watercolour and ink - 35cm x 50cm
When faced with the opportunity to choose a reading for our wedding 11 years ago I of course opted for some passages from The Lord of the Rings - in particular the parts that related to the courtship of Aragorn and Arwen. I presented the original of this image to my wife yesterday for our Anniversary and I am happy to report she loves it
Thank you to all those who helped me with advice along the way on this one.

I love the color of the trees, and background, and hair, but Arwen's dress just doesn't fit with what "elf-clothes" mean to me. (For me, it's too drastic a shade of blue).
The breaking of the border with the leaves helps a lot Great job!

You're welcome I love it when somebody helps me see a flaw in my drawings, and that's what I try to do for others (unless, of course, they specified criticism isn't welcome). I'm glad it helped!

The red was kind of a happy accident. In my colour study I had the foliage as a dark purple but all the hues I was putting down with my sea sponge were much lighter and redder. Thank you for your kind words

First to comment...? This turned out beautifully Andy. I'm digging the watercolour application, especially the orange/red hues at the top on the tree... very lovely.
A very nice painting.!

Thanks, Aaron. Another step in my traditional methods education. The next illustration which is already taking form in my head will be less story-book-like and will hopefully make use of some new watercolour methods I have been reading about (and dying to try).
