Description Part of a story concept I was working on. I'm not happy with this and don't suspect I will refine it any further. Rather than let it rot on my harddrive, I'm putting it up on the interbutts. At least now the time poured into it feels slightly less wasted!

Nah, it's the light, the atmosphere, the field, the what would be in real life a transmission tower , the chavs carrying weapons stolen from the military museum...Ah sweet nostalgia

Geez the sky is MAGNIFICENT!! and I am also quite fond of the folds in the clothes and what have you! It all looks very serene!

Thanks, I'm glad you like it! I'm not trying to be negative to garner compliments. This is by no means a bad piece (or finished for that matter). My disappointment is more on a personal level; it's not what I imagine.

Also, I like puffy white clouds.

I want that tower thingy to be a space elevator. I want this more than I want anything else.

It's really cool to see you working with a more painterly style. While your humor stuff is The Top, I'd love to see more stuff like this, particularly because this one image looks like something I would read in a New York Minute.

Haha, in my mind it's an atmospheric processing plant. Although it's funny you mention space elevator, because at the point of the idea's inception (large fields, rolling plains, massive tower structure dominating skyline) space elevator was something I'd considered.

I really liked this idea of setting up a cool science fiction story...wrapped in a really rural, mundane setting. No Coruscant skylines, no Blade Runner flying cars, no neumatic tubes or smashed up, vine-covered New York. There's this company is trying to set up new habitable planets, and this little gem is one of their first successes in extra-solar terraforming. It's still in the early stages where the company sets up atmospheric processing plants that begin to make the planet's atmosphere breathable (thanks, James Cameron). Early human inhabitants are plant workers, technicians, and farmers who maintain the spread of green plant life and harvesting. Because of the limitations on who and what would be shipped planet side, there's an in-universe excuse to keep a lot of aspects low-tech.

Most of my frustration with this piece is that I couldn't push myself into something really realistic, which I could totally see in my head. I'm glad you like it!

I would read the tender loving grace out of that. Especially if you addressed things like gravity and radiation challenges - sounds like you've already got a good handle on the atmosphere angle! I love the idea of using low-tech equipment to do something very high-tech - like using a home-built biplane crop-duster to spread genegineered pollen to make local plants produce oxygen instead, of, I dunno, boron or whatever they normally have as their waste product.

SWEEEET. I'm glad you put this on the interbutts instead of letting it rot. It's awesome. It kinda reminds me of Akira. Which makes it more awesome.

Mmm...Akira. It's probably the goggles. And that giant laser device in the shorter boy's arms.
