It's short for "Bimbo Du Jour", or Bimbo of the day; which is a play on the expression "Soup du jour (soup of the day)" from restaurant lingo.

The expression is used by American fans of the Japanese TV series Iron Chef. The guest (often bubbleheaded) female judge is frequently sarcastically and/or affectionately referred to as a Bimbo Du Jour, or "BDJ" for short. Sadly, the term BDJ appropriately fit a majority of the young, attractive, female guest judges on the show. One was quoted as uttering, "It's like I'm tasting a cloud!" after having a few spoonfuls of soup. I personally blame cultural stereotypes in Japan for having the women act in that fashion. However, there were a handful of awesome standouts that broke the BDJ moniker.. whose names I've promptly forgotten. Darned old age. ^_^

Other expressions from the show are "She pulled a Kishi on him". Kishi was one of the semi-permanent elder female judges. (You have a Kishi-like character in your drawing, which is awesome!) She had a reputation for "deep-sixing" challenging chefs. Her voting pattern would sometimes sabotage a chef's score, such that no matter how high the other judges voted, they'd still lose to the Iron Chef.

Thanks! I was never a big enough follower in the Iron Chef scene to get that into it.

I do miss the Japanese series, though, for two reasons -- the first being the crazy dishes/ingredients, the other being the crazy judges. My family always joked about the giggling model/celebrity/idol who would inevitably end up in the panel of judges and make comments like "Perhaps I will enjoy it more when my tastes have matured!". It seemed like there was one of those, an adult male who was nostalgic over a certain dish, and a formal, elder member in the panel of judges.

Glad to see my memories of the show really weren't far off base.

You're welcome. ^_^ ...and yeah, the BDJ's comments and guest judges were always hilarious and entertaining.

Here's two memories that'll hopefully put a smile on your face:

*poses body in a dramatic fashion*
"Today's secret ingredient is..."
*pulls tablecloth from atop the central pillar*
"WATER!"
*big glass bowl containing nothing but water is unveiled*
"Allez cuisine!"
*Both chefs stare at bowl of water, dumbfounded*

Remember how every challenger who made Squid ink gelato lost? Ever wondered why? Squid ink is well known in the veterinary world as a bad-tasting irritant.

Iron Chef was an awesome show. If you ever get into it again, the first made-for-American-TV special with Morimoto-san vs. Bobby Flay was great. It's highly recommended. Although.. in my humble opinion, the second Morimoto vs. Flay special is best to be avoided, it felt like it had rigged judging, moreso than usual.
