Description
This is the final production art for issue 9 of the comic! I rarely ever ever ever do anything digital short of design work or text, but this time I decided to color the cover in Photoshop on my Wacom tablet. The linework is still done traditionally, ink and brush.Big Macintosh features heavily in this story, and the voice actor had just been joking with me that he hadn't seen Big Mac on a cover yet... so there ya go! I love Applebloom and she helped the gag. Derpy, Screwball, and Pinkie, and blind bag figure Sweet Cream Scoops!
The Run For The Roses sign on the cider house is from issue 1, page 3... I'm a lifelong fan of Dan Fogelberg, so I wanted to tip my hat to him... and the song is about horses, so there ya go.

Is Mac referring to the crazy characters around him, or is he looking at something specific?

He's referring to the WHOLE town and it's characters, not just the characters

Gotta be honest, I couldn't help but chuckle at Big Mac's comment and say to myself, "Ee-yup." Very well done! The picture is in balance -- though the ponies within it are very much otherwise -- and the expressions are priceless.
...sadly, I think Discord is hiding behind the house saying, "Wow, do I even have to be here?!"

I think it'd be fun if Big Mac was treated in the comics the way Donald Duck was treated in the Carl Barks comics.
By that I mean, in Bark's comics, Donald would fill page after page with lots and lots of dialogue and word balloons...something he didn't do in the cartoons, because of Clarence Nash's voice, which could be good in small doses.
Anyone else think it'd be funny to see that happen with Big Man, where he'd just be incredibly vocal comic-wise?

Actually Donald can talk a lot in the cartoons due to having 2 voices. The spoken one is Clarence Nash's and the internal monologues were spoken by Leslie Denison (case in point [link] ). And I never had any trouble with Nash's voice , In fact I read Donald's dialogues in Ducky voice for extra fun ! (even easier in french since Donald becomes far easier to understand in that language despite having the same duck tone!) XD Here is the long version

As For Big Mac I think his thought bubbles should be eloquent and with rarely used words , while his speech remains as restrained as usual. Comic contrast .
