Honestly, it all comes down to practice and having an eye for these things. And a 2nd opinion from your friends doesn't hurt.
I'm not really sure I could make a sprite conversion tutorial since it's not really objective like animating where there're set ways to do things - it's more of what you want it to look like but~I'll look into into it,making a tut I mean.
