Description
This is PS CS2, using a tutorial written for CS6. They used a dialogue called 'Black and White' for very specific color adjustments, and no matter how I tried I could duplicate their results. I settled with what I could with Hue/Saturation and a warming photo filter. Anyway, with that in mind, and considering this is my first attempt at it, It's not horribleI'd appreciate any constructive comments or criticisms... my goal is learning
Followed this Colourful Fiery Portrait Tutorial from PSDVault .

The face is balanced at center within the frame, both horizontally and vertically, but the composition holds movement and energy, thus avoiding a feeling of static-ness. The streak of light coming from top of the head off to the lower left contributes strongly to the vitality of the composition. Iβm quite positive thatβs the direction in which the light is flowing! Itβs coming off her, and dissipating away. The details about the face add texture and complexity, both in the shape of the detail sand the use of reds and golds, which contrast nicely with the paleness of her face and the darkness surrounding her. The tinges of green around the edges of the darkness/clouds add a sense of foreboding.
I find the image quite intriguing. My first impression said βwomanβs face,β and as I looked closer, I saw the eyes are almost entirely blacked out, so thereβs an anonymous and mask-like quality to it. A womanβs face, and the head to which itβs attached appears to be dissolving. And thereβs what appears to be flames. Is she being consumed and disappearing into the dark clouds that surround her? Or is this her identity, holding strong and determined in the midst of the darkness swirling around her?

Love your critiques! thank you so much for taking the time, Lyn
I cannot take credit for the idea, as I followed a tutorial. But I am very pleased that even with my limited skill my manip was still able to evoke such emotion. Makes me feel good about where I'll end up with it!

My first attempt at photoshop made me want to throw photoshop through the window! hahahaha... yours is a great first go at it! You don't need critique, you need time. Just create what looks good to you, and don't give up even when you want to throw photoshop out the window!
