Description Barbed wire silhouetted against a cloudy day
Taken 12/03/11
Olympus u-mini Stylus VS
Enhanced with Paint Shop Pro 8
I saw this as we were driving past in a multi-story car park. I knew I had to get some pics of it, even if it is just barbed wire. And we were stopping for me to take photos of stuff for my art exam anyway, so this was just one photo of many...

we do this: mm/dd/yyyy "4/2/2011" or "April 2, 2011"

rarely but not like, not at all: dd month yyyy "2 April 2011"

I think a little more focus on composition would be nice, everything is just to balanced that it becomes less a subject based image and more an ambiguous texture.

As [~aeew ] stated I'd also like to see some depth, something to distinguish a focal point, and a continuation of the pattern created by the fence. Actually I'd take this shot from a little closer to the wire, looking back across the rows, you can generate interest with a macro on the barbs and have the wire leading away be your introduction to the pattern of "Twisted Stems".

Nice concept though, and good parallel between literal and figurative images.

From the chat event youre' on now....

Man,I just love the sight of BW Photography .I assume you converted into BW by using the Imaging Software you stated above, right? It was the right thing to do,because leaving it in colour would just made this photo less interesting and more importantly, more distracting.

Well, the barbed wires aren't really 'twisted' as in the title of this photo. But,the title was suggested,so that's another story for another day?

Even though the DoF stated was F/4.9,I can't really see the focus point in this photo (Unless my eyes are malfunctioning ) and therefore,it lacks impact but at least the image is sharp, which is very important for Macro photography.

Originality? Well, many could take this as well,so not much originality. But,there is a sense of mystery like 'Where's this place?' and this makes people wonder whether there is more to the photo rhan it seems. I that!

One more thing. I wonder what kind of camera you're using because I've never heard of it. And I use a point-and-shoot camera.

Overall,a very intrigiuing photo but needs more punch!

Actually, these are the original colours!
Yeah, I was a little stuck for ideas on the title But my friend suggested that barbed wire looked like the stems of roses... The other version of this is more aptly named "Iron Thorns", but I didn't want to use the same title twice.
Yeah, I agree- it's nice to look at, but doesn't really have any context...
My camera is fairly old (2006-ish), and not the best quality I'm waiting to get a new one.

Oh, and thanks so much for the comment!!

So,you're saying that you took the photo in BW instead of taking the photo in colour and converting into BW in an imaging software?

Cause if you did,the quality of the BW is lower, you know?

AnglaiseRox In reply to aeew [2011-03-19 18:23:38 +0000 UTC]

Nope, just regular mode- the barbed wire just happened to be grey, and the sky was too

aeew In reply to AnglaiseRox [2011-03-19 18:27:07 +0000 UTC]

Oh,Now I can see why. Hmmm,in that case, even putting in BW when taking this photo won't change the look of the photo. So,excuse me of saying that It was BW photography; It isn't.

Wondering whether it rained on that day that you took this photo.

From the Project Comment chat event!

It's a lovely photo in all the usual ways - clean, clear focus, crisp image. But I don't really see anything original about it I don't really know what to comment on.

Aaw, that's OK! Thanks for the comment all the same!
Although I've never seen any barbed wire against the sky photography myself...

I've seen plenty of barbed wire in black and white though. Like, if there were some other subject to go with the wire it might be different, but it's just very plain as it is. Almost TOO simple.

Nice silhouette shot! I used to have to help my uncle set up barbed wire fencing all of the time. It's very slow work D8
