Description Just a scrappy little something I figured I'd upload. I totally just found it on my floor and decided to put it up. Again, effort.

Last fall I directed Romeo and Juliet for my school's Shakespearean troupe. Before my co-director and myself were allowed to put on the show, however, we had to pitch the play to the rest of the group. As part of the pitch, I drew up designs for each of the characters and their costumes (complete with family color scheme). These were, therefore, drawn in the fall/winter of 2008.

From left to right we have: Romeo, Juliet, Mercutio, Benvolio, and Tybalt. Yes, my Benvolio and Tybalt were both girls in both concept and casting.

It's hilarious to me how much my real cast differed from this original conception. My Romeo was shorter and Asian, my Juliet was... probably close to the standard heroine look I drew, my Benvolio was Persian and less DERP, my Benvolio was a little heavier and more stylish, and my Tybalt, who did look just like the picture I drew, didn't have the Latino flair we'd originally planned. Regardless, I loved them all to death.

I figured I'd slap these up because I'm amazingly proud of the expressions on all of these characters. I really had to convey some feeling to have a decent sketch, and so I pushed myself to it. I should do this kind of practice more often...
