More insta-scrap.Guess who's been watching NHK Historical Dramas~?
My professor for my Samurai history class recommended the Yoshitsune series to us... and I unfortunately found the 2004 series: SHINSENGUMI!
This little parody is from the first episode. Hijikata and Kondo, through some interesting events, are brought to see Perry's Black Ships in Edo Bay. They are, rightly, concerned about what the arrival of these gaijin means for Japan, and so decide to strike the first blow--STEALING THE FLAG OFF PERRY'S SHIP. 21 year olds never--I repeat, NEVER-- have good ideas, myself included. It was just so delightfully frat boy that I had to draw it.
(Spoiler: the scene ends with them stripping down to their fundoshi (which was hot by the by) to swim out to the ship when Perry fires all the canons in honor of George Washington's birthday. Hijikata and Kondo promptly PISS THEMSELVES and Hijikata throws himself into Kondo's arms. I died.)
