Description
In my art there are often elements of nature because I believe in the healing power of it. To me it works anyway, every time I paint it's like I'm escaping to my own hidden garden that always manages to make me happier.(it's a bit ironic that I'm writing this in horrible fever but whatever)
Sketched from a reference pic I took.
Thanks for viewing and reading/enduring my odd descriptions.

You may got some popularity because this picture i saw it from Helsingin sanomat-magazine.
I'm glad that somebody made that article, usual peoples don't know what is deviantart.com hopely they know it now ^__^

Yes I'm really glad they picked this one. And the article shows the community in a positive light so that's good too. It's so common for old people here in Finland to think that young people aren't at all interested in culture because they don't even know pages like this one exits.

Wonderful colors. I also love how you integrated nature with the human subject. It really is what I look for in a painting, the connection of man and nature... This was always very clear before the industrial age came...

It's a nice piece, but when you say you hope we can enjoy the "brush strokes", I'm just not sure if you're using the right vocabulary. Digital brushes don't operate with the same nuanced complexity that real physical brushes have, especially holding the diverse thicknesses of real oil paint.
Check these paintings out to see some really noteworthy examples of minimal brush strokes used elegantly yet powerfully. (1 , 2 , 3 , 4 )
I think it might be better to say that you hope we can appreciate your subtly-textured departure from ultra-smooth realism.

But you're only giving me face close ups! Bear in mind that I work in a very large scale so at this size there's a fair amount of optical and digitally blurred blending due resizing. So for example this man's head is actually quite similar to the links you gave in terms of brush use. I do enjoy the oil paints unique way of defining the starting and ending point of the brush stroke but after seeing my digital paintings in the exhibition printed to large scale I noticed the beauty of round flat brushes too. They're fresh, graphic but painterly at the same time. And as a artist it's easier to appreciate (for me) because you can't do any tricks with the shape of the brush that way.
If you for example look up some work from Edelfelt you'll find that they all look fairly realistic until you see them in real life up close. Thanks for the comment.

Or is it simply to show off your awesome way of colouring skin?

Oh I wish I had such high and mighty reasons for doing what I do. I think it was just me being a horny man and painting stuff. The yellowish orange hue pops out of the blue background well so I think it serves some composition function too. Thanks for the comment.

Out of interest, roughly how long did this take you?

I think a lot of times artists might feel they need to do something different, and that sometimes really does create wonderful new experiences and art. I personally think this is one of them, hehe.

Overall I really like this work. The lighting is good, the bodyshape is well done and I am loving the way the hair moves.
The only thing that bothers me is that the edge of the face is sort of lost a little. I am not sure how to remedy that except making the highlight on it brighter perhaps. I don't know. I just feel that the face lacks something.

delightful! (and not just for the subject - hee hee)
I wouldn't have said i'd peg myself as a fan of impressionism until quite recently - but much like good concept art it fires the imagination to fill in the pores and other detail, meaning everyones interpretation is kind of.... well, personal
Brilliant job, and heres to the first of many!
