Hello, Smashers! Ready for my latest installment of my 434 part series? Leaping out of the jungle and into the arena this time is that arcade hero: Donkey Kong Junior!I chose DK Jr. because of what he represents to Nintendo's history. As popular as the first Donkey Kong arcade game was, Donkey Kong Jr. marked it's begining as a franchise. The arcade hit was just as big, if not more so, than it's predicessor. DK Jr. has been remade and rereleased several times over the years, and the little gorilla as appeared in other games, like "Donkey Kong Jr. Math," "Super Mario Kart," and "Mario Tennis." I felt he earned a spot in the SSB roster.
DK Jr is a "clone" character of his daddy, Donkey Kong. He would play very similarly to his pop, but with some stat differences. For starters, he'd be somewhat weaker than DK, but also faster and more nimble. He'd weigh a bit less too, somewhat around Mewtwo's weight. No pushover, the tiny ape would still pack a punch.
On an artistic note, I had fun with this. I updated DK Jr.'s look a wee bit, making him a tad more muscular, and adding a few details here and there to fit in with the refined, hightened appearnces of those lucky enough to get into Smash Bros.

Nowadays, people see Funky Kong as the ideal echo for Donkey Kong, but this would be a pretty cool take on a DK echo! (Even if I personally want Funky more)

Why a clone? No one likes clones, we like variety, not clones. It's easy to come up with a fresh moveset!

dk jr is supossed to be the modren day DK but they also say cranky was Dk jr making DK DK the III
it's all to confusing. then to add to the confusion on mario tennis DK and DK jr are playable characters. it would just be cool if DK jr is from the future and he's the modern day DK son and thw Original DK was DK was the modern day or cranky

Isn't Donkey Kong Jr. already in the game? Being as the Donkey Kong in the game is the son of Cranky, Cranky being the original Donkey Kong?

Yeah, I thought Nintendo dispelled that like they dispelled Mario and Luigi being from Brooklyn, but Brawl apparently re-established it (Although Otacon says DK is the old DK's GRANDson, so maybe he's the son of Junior?)
Anyway, Link and Young Link co-existed in Melee, didn't they?

If that's the case, you got to wonder where Junior went, and why Mario isn't 78 years old. That, or Junior was Cranky's Grandson, while Cranky was still the original DK. Titles pass generations. I suppose it needs to be a bit more flexible.

Well, gorillas DO age faster that humans, and mabey DK/Crankey was already middle-aged in DK 1, hence we have Jr. in DK 2, who is obviously not an infant. I dunno though; it was just easier during the time when Nintendo had retracted this whole mess.

I'd argue that it does a lot for the current DK's character if he never was a villain, and was, in fact, always the hero (from DKJr. or DKC, whichever). It's one thing to try and repent of your own sins, but another when they're sins of the family.
