Funny thing is that two or so episodes of the first season of Fat Albert did have a duck who was in many ways like Donald, talked with a similar voice. Said character, I think named "Cluck", quickly found himself axed. Surprised he didn't return for the "Legal Eagle" bit in later episodes.

Well, the 70's and 80's was a time when goofy animal or extraterrestrial sidekicks were de riguer in cartoons, especially for Filmation, but then maybe they felt Cluck was out of place (the only talking animal outside of the "Legal Eagle" in the last season or two), and so they just silently dropped him. Cluck was definitely in the "camp" and "hospital" episodes of Season 1.
