Well, I wanted to show a different side of him, that a badass 'rider'
like he is can be compassionate and tender to his loved ones.
Iole was the only person that shown him unconditional love and
Nessus is willing to protect her no matter what.

it's gotta do with the helmet, that's actually for football.
