so uh
these are some alternative designs I made for some Databrawl characters
it all started back in late June - early July, I was playing Databrawl, was playing as a Virus, was killing up people, when suddenly this image pops into my mind without warning

the image was a Virus, but the Virus didn't look like a normal Virus, it had legs and arms, it had a pupil with a deranged-looking ring around it, it had a spine, it had skin, it was all organic-looking texture-wise, but it still bore that geometric, non-organic cone-shaped/triangular head, it was a strange combo

it had this weird, desaturated, pink-ish lavender-ish color, and it was hunched over, and in its hands it had a Program Heart, and those hands had something dripping from them, I don't know, I think it was the Program Heart's blood or the dead Program's skin or something, I don't perfectly remember what I saw in my mind that day but I know the hands had something dripping, like man that was some gross stuff man

the strange Virus was in a very similar pose to the first Virus drawing on this page, the one in the upper left corner with its back partially turned to the camera and its eye locked onto you like it just did something bad and got exposed
I think it might've had some flecks of drool around its mouth too, I just remember liquid on this thing
it was like a het game over screen but databrawl or something

when that strange Virus image appeared in my mind for that split-second, I just knew "I gotta sketch this out, I gotta jot this down, I must pin this image in my mind" and so I did, but I didn't sketch it out exactly like how it was in my mind, the sketch isn't nearly as detailed and ugly as what I saw (nor is the pose exactly the same although very similar), I just wanted to get the basic look of the creature down

after I sketched that Virus monster into my book, a couple of days or so later I tried to imagine what this thing's mouth would look like if it opened it, and when that image came into my mind it had a bunch of pointed, slightly curved teeth, I could just see all the saliva and detail, like woah
so then I sketched that too, with greatly reduced detail (and when trying to sketch it I felt like the original mouth [which looked like the simple vertical line mouth on the Oct. 4 drawing] looked strange [because at that time I wanted it to look like a spread-open flower but with the vertical mouth the "spread-open flower" look would have a very limited amount of toothed "petals"] so I changed it to have more lines, but then I just went back to the simple vertical mouth [and threw the "spread-open flower" look out of the window, so yeah that vertical mouth just opens like a normal jaw])

then after I sketched that sketch I sketched a standard Malware monster
I didn't really have a vision with the Malware one, so when I was trying to design it I didn't know right away what I wanted to draw, so I just tried to draw features that were somewhat parallel to the Virus monster's features, like the ribs and weird alien mouth
there's one feature on that Malware monster I knew I was 100% sure of, and it was the eye, everything else I was kinda like "yeah I'm not 100% sure about what I have here", and to be honest the only reason why I made it a tripod is because it looked unbalanced when it just had 2 legs because of the way I made the legs (was going for the look that some Spore creatures have where their leg joints are arranged like a backwards version of a quadrupedal animal's back leg)
yeah that Malware one's vague and not like the Virus one where it's like "YEAHHHH THAT'S IT 100%"
it was intended to have square-ish grinder teeth but I didn't convey that quite accurately

after I sketched the standard Malware I sketched both of the Brawlers, and the Brawler sketches are a bit vague in that their details were drawn in a kinda vague way, like I just knew I wanted those Brawlers to have visible veins (so I drew in a couple) and scary muscles and stuff but didn't feel like putting too much effort into it all

then after that I did the Bytes (pretend like the Bytes' mouths match the mouths of the standard Virus and Malware that were drawn on Oct. 4 please)
then after I did the Bytes I suddenly started to come up with a nickname for these strange designs, and I settled on nicknaming them "nightmare corruptions", and my thought process when I thought of that nickname was "these weird creatures should appear in dreams, dream monsters, ah yes NIGHTMARE monsters, NIGHTMARE CORRUPTIONS, bingo"

after I had thought of a universe/realm to home these "nightmare" creatures, I began to develop the universe a bit, I developed ideas:

- Main idea: These nightmare creatures aren't real, they're not in anybody's computer, they're not anywhere. They're creatures that exist only in dreams or hallucinations, they exist in the realm of subconsciousness and imagination

- Random potential idea: Perhaps these creatures appear in the nightmares of the child whose computer got Robux-scammed, and the child (inside of the dream) is the main protagonist character of this AU

- Another random idea that connects to the previous one: The person who is having the dream typically appears in their own dream as a Program (not a normal Program I don't think, probably a Program with arms and legs or something)

I don't know, I just started developing ideas for this universe

but yeah then I started drawing all the other stuff, with the sprinting nightmare Creeper being the last one I've drawn so far. When designing nightmare Bloatie and Creeper, I imagined them with quite a bit a detail just like how I imagined the initial Virus picture and the Brawler muscles and stuff, yeah all of these characters are really meant to shine with organic texture details, I imagine all of these characters would just have "skin" as a body texture, no hair, no scales, just organic s k i n, not a single one of the sketches you see here capture the full detail that I see in my mind, am definitely planning on trying to draw at least one of these characters with more detail someday, probably still won't capture that s k i n perfectly though

also random but not completely random side note: I uploaded the 1st Bloatware pic (the left one) to Discord before I uploaded this whole page here on dA and I was very pleased to know that my "Bloatware drawn from my other memory" was discomforting ehehehaaaaa

but there's something I'm not fully pleased with, and it's the full body design rough sketch I made here
I think I'll make a different kind of body later, I must make more fat rolls, there's just not enough, I must cripple the Bloatware under its own fat, maybe even make it completely limbless, just a giant blob of endless fat absorbing everything and everyone around it, because I feel like the Bloatware full body here looks too stable and not enough like obesity and hunger gone out of control

I have no straight idea of where I'm going with this description at this point so let me just say some more ideas relating to this "nightmare" AU:

- Idea: yeah so I was thinking that for this AU, perhaps Scareware would be the strongest character, not CIH, not Hornfel, not the Titans, not Red Mole, not anybody else but Scareware man, I mean I think that makes sense, nightmares are scary, Scareware's s'posed to be scary, it's perfect man

- Idea: almost everything in this AU has a mouth unlike the regular DB where everybody (except maybe 1 or 2 chars like Espacio) has no mouth, like I imagine the characters who look like they don't have a mouth (like Bloatware) would have their mouths just suddenly become visible when they're about to do something specific

- Idea: the Programs are eternally suffering in some way in this realm, they have to ration their food (starvation's an actual threat to these dream creatures, don't ask how dream creatures starve or feel hunger, I don't know myself, just let me slide ok) so they're always a little hungry (all/most of the food machines are broke here so they can't just casually stride over to a food machine and get a snack, they gotta literally journey across a post-apocalyptic wasteland with crazed monsters running around just to reach a singular, partially-working food device, and then even if they reach that food device they might never get to eat the food or share the food because the monsters might get them before they can even do those things, then the food device might not even give them that much food [the keyword here is "partially-working" after all], ouch),
they have access to limited food types (basically they just tend to eat the same exact stuff on a regular basis, like imagine yourself eating nothing but white bread on a regular basis, white bread is your only food because you and your friends don't want to venture out too far and get killed or lost. You'd probably get bored eating white bread every single day, but too bad because that's all you're gonna get unless somebody brings in something else somehow. Not saying that the Programs here just eat white bread, just using white bread as an example),
they have to deal with very ugly monsters [just like the regular Programs almost, but the regular Programs get to deal with monsters that are actually kinda cute-looking tbh],
their Firewall Security units can sometimes malfunction (not corrupt due to the Corruptions, but malfunction on their own for no reason)/get corrupted and start attacking/killing them instead of the Corruptions (this is a take on those silly Firewall players who try to attack Programs in the actual game haha),
they themselves can become corrupted and turn into monsters (just like the actual game's stuff, except here Bloatware counts as a corrupted monster instead of just a fat guy, so yeah ouch, if they eat too much within a certain timespan they will begin to lose their soul and will eventually snap and vore kill all of their friends),
and their environment is uncomfortable, sometimes the temperature's perfectly bearable, but then other times it gets kinda nippy, and when it gets nippy, everybody gets cold because nobody's wearing any clothes. Then other times it isn't even the temperature that's the problem, it's the hard ground that they're forced to rest on because their houses and beds are dead, or something else environment-related

yeah

also I'm still kinda developing how these Programs are living their lives, am thinking that the Programs are all kinda scattered around, some of them are safe (kinda) with the Firewalls and huddled in a nice, fortified Firewall base, but some of them are just out in the wasteland, trying to stay hidden from the Corruptions and trying to find their way to the Firewalls or something

- Very likely idea: i'll never actually do anything with this au idea, no comics, no anything, these ideas and alt. designs are gonna die and turn to blown-away dust and it'll all be forgotten like it never came up as a thought, i don't even know why i'm thinking about continuing to make nightmare designs/au ideas when i know i won't do anything with them haha, i guess i'm just being like those people who redesign popular characters just to play around with the designs for no reason other than fun, 'cause yeah this was/is fun to do y'know

also i apologize if i didn't proofread this well enough and there's no flow, i tried and i'm feeling too lazy to try anymore
