Description This is a piece based off of a drawing I saw DA member do.

You can see it here: [link]

He asked for some help in critiquing it, and I decided to lend a hand by redrawing this to give a better idea as to what he could do. So there's no real need to read this write up beyond this point.

First off, you draw very stylized, and that gives the piece gives great flow, but your anatomy should be stronger. Like I said on your page, her arms looks sausage-y and weak.

The shoulder starts off broad and then tapers downward. Notice how it looks like a water droplet in the drawings I have off to the side.

I can see you have some anatomical studies on your page and they're fantastic. You have a good eye for capturing the form, and exaggerating it, but you just need to understand why the forms work that way. Once you understand why of it, then you have free reign to play with proportions.

Keep studying anatomy and going to classes with live models. Those are utterly invaluable.

Wow it really does look better, i was scared to do a larger bicep just because i thought it would make her look manly but u made it work, and those anatomy sketches u saw i only just started doing them recently so when i try to do my own it looks awkward. I will practice more and i will do it better next time! thanks for your input and taking the time to teach me; greatly appreciated!

I can understand why you'd be hesitant. I've made the same mistakes. It's all about learning and keeping at it.

What I would suggest; try to find an artist's model. They're like wooden action figures and you can find them for pretty cheap depending where you look. They even have some that are more gender specific to help with proportions.

Even looking at modeling magazines and copying what you see in there can be a big help.

I'm glad to help! I hope to see more of your work in the future!
