Description
Here we have some fanart for JelloApocalypse ‘s show “Epithet Erased”. A hilarious show with many fun and charming characters that I’m now obsessed with. One character I knew I just had to draw was Mera Salamin. She was a fantastic antagonist for the first arc of the series and I can’t wait to see more of her next season. So here’s a piece I made to show off how powerful and scary she can be, and the fragile side of her she tries to hide. It was a fun chance to experiment with drawing glass.Related content

Really great use of colors here; the blue and yellow-white work well together, forming a sort of yin-yang dichotomy between light and dark, which also fits this character divided by glass into two halves of different temperaments. I like how the side of the character we can see has shading and details, while the side behind glass becomes a simple, excellent silhouette. This is how a cartoon character should look through dark, broken glass!
The width of the “glass” feels a little too thick, but I really like the way you use blue and white lines to make the edges. And that jagged dividing line between the two halves of the character really emphasizes the danger they represent while also going nicely with other spiky elements like their hair, blouse sleeves and that grin. The cracks in the glass feel a little too intentionally placed to suggest faults in the character because they stop or start at the edges of the character; I’d understand if your intention was to imply a broken mind, but what about the arm, stomach and leg?

Thanks so much for detailed critique. To answer your question about the cracks on the arms and legs, it's the drawback to her powers. In "Epithet Erased", characters have powers relating to a specific word they are born with. In Mera's case, her word is Fragile. It allows her to summon broken glass and weaken buildings or people, but using her powers makes her own body weak and causes her great pain. So all the cracks are supposed to show her physical and mental pain.
