Description
On April 15, 2020, Brian Dennehy, Tony-award winning actor of film and television, passed away at the age of 81 due to cardiac arrest.Believe it or not, the first time I heard of Brian Dennehy was from South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, where he had a brief cameo during the songΒ "What Would Brian Boitano Do?", where he was basically told to go away after the boys thought they said his name. However, if there's one thing I do remember Brian for, it's being the voice of Django, Remy and Emile's father and the leader of the rats in Pixar's 2007 masterpiece, Ratatouille. As a Pixar fanatic, it felt like this was the only way I could honor him. I'll also remember him for being one of the leading actors in the cult 1985 sci-fi comedy Cocoon, which is about a retirement home discovering these pods from aliens that makes them younger.
I was really experimenting with this picture, as I decided to incorporate textures into some of the things shown and played around with faux 3D. For the hair on the rats and the dirt, I simply took stock images online, made them transparent enough to be visible, but to not take away the colors. For the building they're standing on, I made several rectangles of varying shades and placed them to make it look like the ledge is really 3D. Lastly, for the Paris skyline, I took it from the film itself, and gave it a light distance blur. The end result is that this picture ends up having the most realistic details I've ever put into a drawing.
Hope you enjoyed my dedication to Brian Dennehy. May he live on in a cocoon in Heaven.
RIP Brian Dennehy (July 9, 1938 - April 15, 2020)

Well, that's sad. At least it wasn't the pandemic that took his life.
Rest in piece, Mr. Dennehy.
