My artwork with a couple milestones:-My first artwork celebrating Pride Month.
-My first artwork with a speed paint. Watch here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSi9Z1…
Ah, June. While many see the sixth month of the year as when the sun shines its brightest and kids are eager to finally escape from the clutches of the education system for several months, it also serves as a gateway for those who are just a little different to let their true colors fly. I am, of course, talking about Pride Month, the one month dedicated to those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and and everything else (except for the creepy ones). Even though I'm straight/heterosexual, that won't stop me from enjoying a little pride, since I'm friends with a transgender and a couple bisexuals who really made themselves to be fun and interesting to be around.
-----
For my contribution to this year's Pride Month, I decided to draw at least one character that fulfills each of the letters in "LGBT".
-For lesbian, I went with Amity Blight from The Owl House, as it was recently confirmed by show creator Dana Terrace that Amity is, in fact, a lesbian, given how in some of the last few episodes of Season 1, she has a major crush on the protagonist, Luz Noceda.
-For gay, I went with Howard and Harold McBride from The Loud House, as they set the record for being the first same-sex couple on a Nickelodeon show. Because they both represent being gay, I decided to make them the only duo for this piece.
-For bisexual, I went with Princess Bubblegum from Adventure Time. Finding a character to represent the bisexual was a little challenging. I would've gone with Luz from the aforementioned Owl House, but I wanted to make the piece feel more inclusive (as in having more shows than using multiple characters from the same show), so I went with a different character. Bubblegum was actually perfect, as my piece now includes at least one character from the three major kids networks (Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Disney Channel).
-For transgender, I went with Evelyn from Peepoodo and the Super F**k Friends. For those that don't know, this is a French online cartoon that is described by the creator as exploring "sexuality without taboos and in all its forms, including dicks and nipples." Fun fact, when the show first started, Eveyln actually started out as a male named Kevin, but when episode 14 came around, he didn't feel right, and after a quick speech about truth not being binary, Kevin ultimately came out as a trans woman and officially renamed herself Evelyn. In fact, the figure standing behind Evelyn is her past self, Kevin. I made him transparent to symbolize that Evelyn's past self is no more. (In all seriousness, do not watch this show if you are under 18, get queasy easily, or are not comfortable with NSFW content.)

In case you missed it, this is my first ever artwork that I've done a speed paint for. When I finished my Spring 2021 school semester, I mentioned on Twitter that one of next passion projects was to create a speed paint video, which is, as the name states, a video of an artist showing their process of making drawing from a rough sketch to a complete image, which is sped up to just a few minutes. The reason why I wanted to do a speed paint video was because it's fun to watch footage of people making their drawings from start to finish, and because it lets your followers understand what you go through when making the picture.
But if I wanted to make a speed paint video, I needed to download a screen recording program. I've spent the last couple weeks trying to determine what I consider a good enough recording program. After a lot of careful considerations and observing the videos of other artists, I settled with a program called Mirillis Action!, which was only $20. After installing the program, I gave it a test run and, impressed with the high quality, I was finally ready to begin working on my Pride Month picture. Over the next three and a half hours, I would work hard on recording footage of myself transforming the picture from rouch sketches to a colorful drawing. During those three and a half hours, Photoshop crashed twice, and my compute froze twice. Thankfully, Photoshop and Action! autosave your content in the event of a computer reset.
Overall, I had four videos of me drawing this picture, with the shortest being only 5 minutes, and the longest being 42 minutes. Now that I had my footage, I needed to speed up my videos into a short time frame. Thanks to my major being digital arts, my college offered digital arts students an Adobe package that allows students to use a select set of their programs that would most likely be used in courses, and thankfully, Adobe Premiere was available. This isn't my first time using the program, as I used it back in my senior year of high school, where I was in a video editing class, and Premiere was our main program. With a few tricks memorized and some minute-long tutorials, I was able to speed up my footage into a suitable time frame of just nine minutes. After going onto After Effects, another Adobe program included in my package that I used in my spring semester, I was able to create the title and end cards for the video. It's through all the trials and tribulations that resulted in the final video you see.

Hope you enjoyed the artwork and video, and here's to more speed paints from me.
