Description
Presenting 's ultra-belated 21st birthday present. This is her flaxen-haired elven prince, Link. Not from the Zelda fandom at all, he shouldn't be confused with Link from The Legend of Zelda, although he definitely resembles Link.
Her request was for me to draw Link decked out for war, and so here he is. In case you haven't noticed yet, I love shiny. *__* The border is a wierd quasi art-nouveau style thing. I tried to make it art nouveau, but I don't think it quite turned out. Check out her gallery for some great pictures of her Link.

Extremely exceptional work you got there. The coloring job is superb in the style, cleaniness, and neatness. The character design itself is literally stunning. It basically looks so flawless because everything seems to be done right. Well, you could have made the coloring in the silver cape a bit more smoother as well as making the cape itself look less stiff, but it looks alright now.

Stunning....am lostfor words. How can you complain for lack of background when you more then compensate with amount of detail and amazing colouring. That circular design is great too, just adds to a great composition on this piece.

Oh my freaking gosh, that's so beautiful!! Agh, I SO ENVY how well you can color metal- you've mastered it! And oh how attractive Link looks... what a strong, noble pose. (No offense to Maga-Link or anything, but I personally think it's a little strange to have a character named Link who looks exactly like Link from Zelda but isn't... but don't mind me!

I really really love the border on this one, nice use of pale flowers, metal and glass... Just how do you draw it so neat? I'm intrigued because I'm trying to get my lineart as fine as that and not having much luck, lol.
The characters armour is nicely detailed and shaded/hlight appropriately to that detail... The positioning of the right arm bothers me though. It looks kind of awkward and it suggests he is leaning on something, which is not there (was it intended originally to have him leaning on something?)
Anyway, yet again a mastery of colours, your palette choice is brilliant - again, how do you do it?? lol

As far as the colors go, I really don't know. I just color things whatever I think they should be and add some atmospheric backlighting of a different color. If the environment is sunny, a yellow tinge to the highlights should be used, like for his green tunic, I used a yellow-green for the highlights because of the sun. If it was night time or cloudy, I would have used a washed out light green for the highlights to emphasize the lack of color in the lighting. Appropriate use of shading and highlights should be taken into account as well. If the light source is weak, both highlights and shadows will be weak. Vice-versa for a strong light source. Hope that helps. ^__^

You can achieve a metallic effect if you use lots of contrast (like, the highlights are very light, and the shadows are very dark), also, reflected light should come from behind the light source as well, so on both sides of the armor, there should be light shining off of it (since metal is a super-reflective substance). Hope that helps! ^__^

AHHH!!! I love this!! The details engraved on his armor looks so real! So Shiny!!! *.* (Sorry for any overlooked typos... wearing gloves) The arch circle is so dazzling too... not as much as Link,but... wow! You've got lots and lots of time to improve, so don't worry. I wasn't even drawing anime at all until I was 16, and then I was a complete novice, copying existing pictures and the like. When I finally moved on to original characters, they were horrible! 
BTW, I get jealous of people's mad artistic talents, so you aren't alone.
