I can't seem to get enough of these geometric-type fractals. I absolutely love the colors, depth, and balance you present in this piece of art!

Very nice design Anj. What's the advantage of Chaotica?

Thank you for the compliment, Barbara. Chaotica renders faster than Apo, and you can still play in Apo while the fractal renders. Chaotica is also more visual than Apo. You can see the fractal rendering and make changes as it does.

".. make changes as it does" sounds interesting. I think I should have a look. Hopefully it is not fussy about plugins. Actually I can work in apo while I do an apo render. Can't you? Do you know by any chance the maximum render size chaotica can handle?

anjaleck In reply to baba49 [2012-03-30 06:26:36 +0000 UTC]

Yes, unless you buy a license for it (which I'm thinking about doing) you're limited to 1920x1920 or something close to that.

Yes, the being able to make changes while rendering is really, really nice. For example, I had a fractal that was a bit too dark. I changed the brightness and it updated. With Apo I would have had to stop and fix the fractal then start the render again.

I've not tried to work with Apo while rendering in Apo. Maybe I should give it a try... but I have an older computer (I can't afford to go to Windows 7 because of software issues) and it bogs down when rendering. However, I haven't tried it with this specific computer!

Thank you for the tip!

I want to give it a try. But first I have to solve the riddle that the new apo version is giving me. :sigh:
Happy Easter Anj

What riddle is the new Apo doing to you? I haven't updated yet so I'm very interested!
Happy Easter to you too, Barbara!

Argh I was interested in the 64bit version and was not aware at first that it doesn't accept plugins and wasted a lot of time wondering what's going on. Then I changed to the 32bit version but there I noticed that I can't do batch render. Now I am back on 15B. It's fine but I wasted a lot of time. Also I can't get any apo version to accept the path to chaotica this is real strange. I tried putting chaotica directly in C then I tried My Documents but when I want to load the path to apo I get error messages. Now if I want to use chatotica I have to copy paste. I guess I will use it now occasionally if it suports the plugins I used but mainly I will stick to the internal apo render. I have a nice batch render script for that and am used to it.

Sounds like you really had a rough time with it! As I mentioned in another post, I don't do it through Apo, I open it and then open the file that contains the fractal I want to render. I rarely do batch renders so that isn't an issue for me.

What I like is the ability to affect the fractal while it's rendering. I've lightened up some of the ones I've done, and I've played with the curves too.

Do you set your batch renders for overnight or something like that? What is the script called?

Yes I collect a few fracs that I want to render in a folder and let the script run over night or while I am out. If the flames allow the same FR setting it works beuatifully. I send you the script by note

anjaleck In reply to Fractalholic [2012-03-26 05:37:10 +0000 UTC]

Glad you like! I've learned one thing though... they render darker than they look in Apo... I'm gonna have to lighten the gradient. I'm rendering one right now (it's pretty girlie though ) and it's turning out much darker in the render. It really weird because these get darker the longer they render rather than getting lighter. Sheesh!

And I am glad you like it. I'll try to make one just for you soon.

Have you tried Chaotica??? I can't get myself
to get out of Ultra Fractal anymore to play in
Apo but when I did Chaotica (the renderer) was
pretty nice and could be adjusted while it rendered!
And it seems quicker than the Apo render.

anjaleck In reply to Fractalholic [2012-03-26 06:29:18 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm... I don't seem to have figured out the part where Chaotic can be adjusted while rendering. Yes, I use it. It's sooo much faster than the built-in renderer.

(BTW, I almost envy you your skill with UF. I bought it and tried it once, and put it away. It's so different than Apo and I just can't seen to get my mind around it.)

I'll have to see if I can figure out how to fix as I render.

Thank you for the information!

See, I'm the opposite!!! UF makes perfect sense to me
but APO ... well I just don't get it most of the time!!! lol

In Chaotica you can change the settings on the right side and hit
update I believe and see the changes while it's still rendering
or you can wait for the next update (it updates every few minutes).

Sorry...that's the best I can describe it!!

I'm not a big purple fan, but the shades of that maroonish-like purple really get me. <3 I love how organized the disorganization is! XD

Frankly, it reminded me of some like 50's-60's vintage flooring for some reason... something I'd seen in my grandparent's house or their old wallpaper, haha, but I love it. It feels very vintage to me. Makes me feel at home anyways. D

I'm getting lost in this in full view. ahaha <3

Oh yes, I think I know what you mean about it feels vintage. After you said that I went back and looked and I think I know what it is... at least for me. It's the little itty, bitty parts that almost look like sparkles. I remember those shiny sparkles in my grandmothers kitchen furnishing and linoleum.

Thank you for the lovely comment. I'm glad you like it.
