Here is the Source Forge link. Version 2.06 is already up there. But if you don't trust the developers of this program, you shouldn't trust Source Forge either. Source Forge is open source programs.
I will say this much for Michael Faber, Joel Faber, Piotr Borys, and any of the others who have developed Apo - and anyone else here on dA that has anything to do with the development of Apo - all of them have been as honest as the day is long on the summer solstice.

Other than that there is nothing "official" about Apo, except that the group of people I mentioned above all continue to develop the program. Mark Townsend is the original developer and he runs the mailing list to which I subscribe. If you're interested in this, I have a link for it also. One last comment - the group here is a really good group to join. It's run by people who are interested in keeping the program going and users interested.

You're very welcome! I realize what you are saying about getting viruses and/or spyware on your machine. That's part of the reason I use Firefox rather than IE. There's a lot more inbuilt security in Firefox. And I didn't take offense... I wanted to reassure you that I trust these people.

I'm so glad you like these, Pat! I really enjoy making them. Some are better than others, but of course, that is the way with everything. If I had picked a favorite fractal a couple of weeks ago this would have been it... but since then I rendered "Down in New Orleans" and it's my favorite now.
