When he was younger he had training. He was being brought up right with the "how to's and what not to do's" when it comes to being a king.

But at the same time, he didn't have any "negatives" pulling that away from him during his break time. He wasn't raised by scar or any other villain to have that "good" taken away from him, so it lay dormant till the day he needed it.
