I really think that colored lines give the art a more finished look, but they are a PAIN when all you have is sketchbook express (meaning no eyedropper)

oh god yeah ;_; i had that on my dell. do you know if gimp has eyedropper? that's a free program you could download off the internet.

it does but gimp for mac SUCKS only because it's opened up in all separate windows like one for colors, one for tools, one for layers... etc. but what that does is that means that I have to switch windows all the time and it doesn't sound that annoying but think about it this way: you need about 4x as many clicks as you would need to do something.

yeah, you get used to it though :I that's how photoshop is on mac, too. i think instead you should try re-sizing all the windows so they fit and then just clicking straight on the button you want to press...it might help

I really like theeeeese!
I have a good way of doing it, but I'll need to know if your program supports - layers, layer clip, and multiply

ah thank youuu! C:
well, i have photoshop cs5, so i have layers, but i dunno what layer clip or multiply are, really--but i bet it has it! xD

If anything, it does have it -- CS5 is probably even more advanced than Elements6.
Layer clip/layer lock is about the most useful thing evar. LOL.
The transparency lock is the little lightgray/white grid icon over the layers' heads. Choose a layer and click the lock, and magically, it won't go outside of the lines that you already made on that layer! MAGICAL. But you'll need to unlock it to make any edits to your base lines. This is super helpful imo. Then, the layer clip is somewhere around the same lines. If you have a layer that you want to keep separate from another layer, but you want to have it so that anything you draw on the layer will only go on the other layer's lines, then you use layer clip. Ctrl + G should do it -- Mac users, Command + G. If you can't work it then go up to the layer section on the overhead bar. There should be something along the lines of "clip layer" or "clipping layer". Multiply is under the list coming from "Normal" at the top of the layer section. It's a great shading tool!
For the method I used, I took a deep purple and filled a layer with it, then clipped it to my lineart layer and set to multiply, then lowered opacity down to what seems fit. Now, transparency lock your lineart layer and use the original colors you used on your coloring layers to color over the respective lines. The multiply lineart color tool will darken the lines as you go. [Use the same thing if you want shine on your lineart. Make a clipping layer to your lineart and color the lines you want shiny with a pale yellow. Then set it to overlay, not multiply.]
Sorry for the ramble. LOL

GEEZ I TRIED THE TRANSPARENCY LOCK AND OMG THATS SO HELPFUL THANK YOUUU!
and layer clip sounds confusing so i'm just going to stick to the other way.
but wait, gah that sounds like a good shading thing, sghkdghsdg i'm too lazy xD
dude, that ramble was amazing and helpful, don't apologize.

Another job well done, Photoshop!
Pretty much, to make it simple-
> Base color layer.
> Make new layer.
> Ctrl + G / Cmd + G

[link] -- scroll down to the clipping layer, or in short, the second.
