Description Edit: almost 50,000 views! Thanks!

This is a little project I am working on. I'm developing a theme for Windows 7 (not in the preview) and was annoyed by the taskbar blur. It makes some taskbar backgrounds look muddy. So, I opened C# and started developing. This is the end result!

UPDATE 0.2.0: The .NET requirement has dropped from .NET 4.0 to .NET 2.0. The readme in the ZIP file above has more information.

I hate to sound like a beggar, but would you please consider donating a few pennies to me so I can maintain this application?

Thank you for your support! I haven't done much work on the program in 2 months or so because we've had a tragedy in our family so I was busy with that. I will be resuming work on it though!

is there some way to just knock off the blur, but keep the color in place?
similarly to Win8?

Anno0001 In reply to My1xT [2014-10-06 21:27:17 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately no, not without editing the theme itself (MSStyles). It is something I am looking on making a workaround for, though nothing has worked yet.

can you tell me how? (I have windowsstylebuilder aka Vistastylebuilder installed)
I searched through the properties of the taskbar and I only found the glass streaks but no mentions of blur or alike...

Anno0001 In reply to My1xT [2014-10-07 09:43:03 +0000 UTC]

You have to edit the Taskbar background images manually. It won't change with the color of Aero, but it'll work.

My1xT In reply to Anno0001 [2014-10-07 15:17:41 +0000 UTC]

honestly, an image alone cannot create blur, since blur has to be calculated live, so why does an image change kill off the blur?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Anno0001 In reply to My1xT [2014-10-08 01:08:33 +0000 UTC]

...use my tool to remove the blur and give the taskbar images a semitransparent background color.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

My1xT In reply to Anno0001 [2014-10-08 16:36:09 +0000 UTC]

that could actually work, but it is bad that you cannot change the color anymore...

First of all: This is really some great stuff!! Great work!! I would have a question: If I run your little program the blur disappears just as it should. However theres a thin black and white pixel line that stays to mark the end of the taskbar. Do you perchance know how I can get rid of this as well?

Anno0001 In reply to sheorun [2014-09-03 20:27:25 +0000 UTC]

Use a theme that has this image replaced in the theme (.msstyles).

They both work fine for me in all the browsers (Firefox, Chrome, IE11) that I have installed.

I have also been looking for a program like this for years.
Though I've yet to give it a trial, I have to say in advance: I love you man!

Anno0001 In reply to yorgash [2014-07-06 20:00:40 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome! I've got the donate-only version in the works too, which will include options for rounding the blur as well as changing it's position behind the taskbar. The 150 points in the purchase option to the right on this page will get you more info on the plus version, as well as early access to all future features (as I add them).

I'll also be open-sourcing the free version. I've seen too many people who go donate-only or paid-only and the free version of their projects go to ruin because they stop maintaining it.

yorgash In reply to Anno0001 [2014-07-06 20:38:56 +0000 UTC]

Thanks; and I'll keep that this in mind - the first thing I'll buy when I get some points on my acc will definitely this donate-only version.

I just wish I had found this sooner, since I've made at least 2 Windows themes that would have been so much easier (and nicer) to make using this.

Still, I'm glad I found this, and wish you the best!

PacManix In reply to Anno0001 [2014-06-26 16:31:47 +0000 UTC]

Nah, the dropbox link is dead for unregistered users.
Also, you know relative file links aren't possible? Thus, the shortcuts to enable / disable don't work.

Anno0001 In reply to PacManix [2014-06-26 23:49:42 +0000 UTC]

There are no dropbox links in the description. I've taken those out of the post.

PacManix In reply to Anno0001 [2014-06-27 16:24:22 +0000 UTC]

They're still in the download

Anno0001 In reply to PacManix [2014-06-27 17:41:35 +0000 UTC]

The download links are in the description primarily. I didn't bother updating the download since I thought everyone would know this.

PacManix In reply to Anno0001 [2014-06-27 17:59:54 +0000 UTC]

nah, normally you upload a zip here

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Anno0001 In reply to PacManix [2014-06-27 18:43:01 +0000 UTC]

EXE files aren't allowed to be uploaded to deviantArt so I have to link them in the description.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PacManix In reply to Anno0001 [2014-06-27 19:16:35 +0000 UTC]

Zip them and upload

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Anno0001 In reply to PacManix [2014-06-27 20:18:14 +0000 UTC]

I can't, that's why I didn't. DeviantArt *does not* allow EXE files to be directly uploaded; whether they be renamed, zipped, encrypted, etc. There was a HUGE problem with viruses in the past, so that's why they're so strict now, and rightly so.

hi nice tool but i found a bug: If i click a few times on the bottom of the taskbar the blur reappeares and i must disable it again with your program...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Anno0001 In reply to Dave2399 [2014-06-20 02:01:08 +0000 UTC]

That's a bug in Windows itself; it's a known issue in 7. It doesn't affect anything functionality-wise, so they didn't bother to fix it. That's been a bug in the superbar ever since build 6956.

muczimuczi In reply to Anno0001 [2014-06-25 04:20:21 +0000 UTC]

Is it possible to repair this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Anno0001 In reply to muczimuczi [2014-06-25 04:48:38 +0000 UTC]

Nope. Like I said, it's a bug in Windows itself. Microsoft themselves would have to fix it. The chances of that are equal to that of a snowball in hell. There's no way that I, as a C# dev, can fix a low-level screw-up by Microsoft.

Is it Win8.1 compatible?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Anno0001 In reply to Jarminx [2014-04-21 23:02:53 +0000 UTC]

Not out of the box, you have to install StartIsBack to get it working. Then it works fine.

Jarminx In reply to Anno0001 [2014-04-22 00:06:50 +0000 UTC]

So this has to have the start menu then? I like the normal operations of Win8.1.. One of the minor few who does  I'll have to think that over.. Last thing I tried ended with a refreshing of Windows
