Well, I was going to try to do Rose, but I made a closet-cosplay of her a few days ago and realized that it was a really bad idea.

It's pretty heavy, actually. The first time I cosplayed him was for two days straight at a con, and by the end of the second day I had a bruise on my shoulder from where it was resting (I called it a Zillyhickey).
Are you sure? My personal cosplay motto is, "If it's not half-assed (or rushed), and you do all your proper research, any cosplay can be awesome" (alright, maybe I'm a bit of a hypocrite about my own cosplays sometimes, but it's still something to live by!) What part of it made you think it was a bad idea?

Pffff Zillyhickey. I haven't ever made a cosplay prop-weapon-thingamahoozer before, so I'm gonna try to make one soon...using poster board and acrylic paints!!!(...?) *criss crossing my fingers!*
It's just, I looked at myself, and then at a picture of Rose, and I thought, "I don't look like her at all." I've never felt like that before and it was unnerving. You encourage me, though; I'll get BB cream and see what I can do 
I don't think can do it by Taiyou, though, so I'll just stick with my troll cosplay for that 
I'm so nervous 0^0 I have this sinking feeling that I'll look shoddy, since it's handmade. But you're right!! I can try my best!

Ooh, what were you going to make? I like props because I can actually make then without patterns or guidelines (which I can't do with costumes to save my life)! Maybe I can give you a hand?
Oh, come on! That's the thing about Homestuck: every artist draws them differently, every person has a different idea of what the characters look like. I personally think that I'm more suited for John than Dave, but I love cosplaying both of them so much! I'm not my own headcanon of what any of the characters I cosplay look like, but I do it because I love the characters themselves, and acting in character as them. :')
The only cosplay that I've had major confidence issues with though is Jake. I just feel like I don't have enough mangrit to do him justice? It was a closet cosplay, and it was a little half-assed, but now I'm not sure if I want to improve it to make it legitimate. : (
It's true, handmade costumes do sometimes don't look as good as bought ones. But sometimes, ones you make yourself are more accurate, and they suit YOU better. As long as you have confidence! Don't be ashamed of telling people you something yourself, though. Often they'll be more impressed, especially if it's something flamboyant or complicated!

Well, I was going to try to make a whip for Aradia, but leather is expensive ono. Lots of people make Karkat sickles, though, so I thought I'd start out with one of those! I was thinking glue two pieces of poster board together (to make them sturdier) and then paint either side.
That's true. I cosplay because I want to, not because of others, so I should just do what makes me happy! So, as long as I'm truly satisfied with my own efforts, I think I can do this now!
Wutchu talkin bout. You'd make the very best Jake. I mean, you're already halfway there with being an amazing John.
For sure! Cosplay sites actually don't sell exact replicas of costumes because they don't want to be sued for copyright infringement
