Description
I should probably be studying like mad for my science test.... But instead I'm drawing>>STORY<<
Gusts of wind tore through the leaves as Joachim and Xanadu walked from the arena to the barn, both their heads down. Joachim pushed his hair from his face, sweeping it back, and looked up as three shapes approached. Rush was leading Jackson to the field, followed closely by Nora.
"Hey," Rush said, stopping. Joachim slowed, too, nodding at him, and Rush continued, "how's Spook doing?" Joachim paused, then slowly shook his head.
"She rejects me every time I try to get near," he sighed heavily, patting Xanadu's neck. The stallion stood silently, his ears relaxed, manes flying in the wind. Rush stayed silent for a moment, looking at them, then shook his head.
"I don't know if we can keep her," he said. Joachim's eyes widened for a moment and he exclaimed, "no, give her more time! She can't be rushed, not-"
"Joachim, she's eating a lot and taking up too much of our time," Rush interrupted, looking him in the eye firmly.
"She'll come around," Joachim said firmly. Rush paused again, biting his lip, then slowly admitted, "I don't know..."
"Vat do you mean? If I don't succeed zen you can try, right? You'll be able to train her in a jiffy," Joachim exclaimed. He didn't want to hear what Rush was going to say, so he started towards the barn again.
"I've seen horses like this before, Joachim, and so far there's only been one end," Rush told him. Joachim whirled around, making Xanadu throw his head up uncertainly and take a few steps back, huffing.
"Zat's because you've never tried! You can't see ze good in her because you've never spent more than ten minutes around her! Vat are you even doing, trying to run a stable like this ven it's clear you haven't got any grip on it?" he yelled, scowling. There was a long silence between them as Rush looked back, surprised and hurt, the wind rushing between them and tugging on their hair. Joachim took a deep breath.
"Sorry," he sighed. Rush still didn't reply, his gaze locked on him, mouth drawn into a firm line, but Joachim could see the pain his words had brought flickering in his eyes. He hesitated, not sure of what to do, then slowly turned around again.
"Don't think 'bout what I said," he muttered. Rush turned and walked away in silence, his head down, eyes on the ground. Joachim entered the barn, where Jesse was sitting, cleaning a saddle.
"That was quite a snap there," Jesse noted, raising his head and looking at him. Joachim didn't reply, so Jesse continued, "don't be so hard on him, it's not fair."
"I was wrong, I know, don't rub it in," Joachim bit back while swapping Xanadu's bridle for his halter, clipping the cross-ties on, and brushing him thoroughly.
"Just saying," Jesse said while returning to the saddle.
