>>STORY<<
Jesse walked beside Rush through the shimmering dawn in silence, bundled up so much he looked like the Michelin man. It was freezing out, and right today the dressage class was taking place outside again for the first time since winter had started. He wiggled his toes, which were packed in fat woolen socks and cuddled by heat packs, then his fingers. Which were freezing cold. Rush was looking around quietly, scarf wrapped around his neck and over his mouth, breath clouding, then glanced up at him. He'd decided not to put on any makeup this time around so he could get an hour extra sleep, but for once Jesse wished he'd taken the time to do so. With the cold it was turning a nasty red and grey/purple, making it look even worse than usual. But he said nothing.
"You're not worried about doing a show with a horse that's pretty much brand new?" he asked curiously, rubbing his rosy pink cheeks in an attempt to warm them.
"No," Rush replied simply, walking into the barn and to Louis' stall. The stallion was perfectly behaved, fine with the small crowd that had gathered and all the noises and happenings, and he looked over, ears pricked smartly. Rush smiled.
"He'll be fine," he decided, taking the halter and walking into the stall, slipping it over the stallion's elegant head before walking him out to the cross-ties.
"Alright," Jesse shrugged, rubbing his gloves together. Rush glanced over again. He'd dip-dyed his hair two days before, and it was still a fiery red and orange, standing out in his dreary blue, grey, black and white outfit. Jesse tacked Louis up quietly while Rush got ready, patting his neck here and there and just chattering to him while he went about his business. He put a quarter sheet on him because of the cold, then wrapped his legs. He waited with the bridle until Rush got back, then put it on and handed him the reins.
"Go get 'em, tiger," he drawled, putting on an exceptionally thick American accent while Rush walked away. He himself headed to the edge of the arena, which was on a slight slope so his feet were lower than the arena itself, and leaned on the fence. Everything seemed to be a shade of blue, though the sun was also spreading rays of light, making the world seem like it was pink and orange and blue and red. They had called Joachim the night before to chat with him, since he couldn't make it to the show, and Jesse wondered whether he'd said something to Rush while he'd been pouring himself some tea. Rush had been quiet ever since, totally focused on Louis and the show and nothing else. He was also starting to gain a little bit of weight and eat more, which was thrilling because, as Jesse had noticed, he was very handsome, with a sharp, defined face. He watched the contestant before them quietly, tapping fingers on the fence occasionally before he could stop himself. It was a charming black horse with nice, elegant movement, but he couldn't focus entirely on it. Rush was never the one worrying, so he always did it for him. He tapped his fingers on the fence again. He adjusted his hat. Glanced around again. Finally it was Rush's turn, and he walked Louis into the arena calmly, adjusting his helmet a bit. Jesse puffed, feeling most of his nervousness ebb away at the immensely calm air Rush had about himself, and he watched in silence, the sun finally starting to warm his back.
