Oh look,Mchan's being unoriginal and tried to make a fake screenshot thing. *shot**Please forgive the ugly watermarks,just people on dA are stealing my art and reposting them all over.
So I tried to do a new style mixing semi realism(I guess?) and anime- and something told me to try cellshading? And well,this was originally meant to be a vent art picture and it turned into this for some reason- is the brickwall convincing? I tried my best;;;
Am I improving with shading? Bwaaahhhh....
So yeah,a picture of my oc Calliaan ...for..some reason hanging out near a wall/alley way wall just with a snarky grin,like cocky and apathetic at the same time--
My laptop's color settings are so annoying- if the color is painful bare with me it's my laptop ;v; bwaah- I hope it looks good though guys!
It was:
- Drawn entirely freehand with Paint Tool Sai
- Took about 5 hours in a span of 2 days due to no free time
- A pain-
I don't know if I'll have more free time to draw sadly ;v; But I will try! ;7;9 I have to take care of my mom all by myself;; so free time is hard ;3;~!

The bricks on the corner don't make sense, but other than that, that wall looks good!
At the corners, you can see two sides of each brick, one short side and one long . Your wall has short bits matched up to short bits and long bits to long bits instead, and the bricks don't seem to line up at all. When including a corner in your art, it helps to start drawing the bricks from the corner.

With bricks, tiles, etc, I rarely draw everything out like you did here. Drawing everything out can look pretty, but it's a lot of work and can be distracting instead of helping the art overall. It's usually just as effective to just draw out the important/focal areas and just suggest everything else by drawing it at a lower level of detail. In comics, this is especially important because the reader doesn't spend a lot of time looking at each panel, so they have to be able to see the most important stuff instantly, without being distracted. Backgrounds are important to keep the story "grounded" and to keep the pages looking interesting, but if you detail them all fully, they'll just clutter up the art and make it difficult to read.
If you're copy+pasting a texture, you can also get it to match up by making sure it's cropped in the right place, and lining the textures up at the corner of the wall. If you just can't get them to line up no matter what you do, it probably means your perspective is off and should probably be tweaked.

Yes! Really if I'm honest,this is probably my very first background I have ever done XD. Not just ya know a few colors here and there ya know? I usually have an eye for detail,just it doesn't pay to try to rush;; Ahaha,I was losing so many watchers though due to inactivity so I felt the need to hurry.; I usually try not to with detailed art. ;u; But yes,your advice is true. I usually self teach myself different techniques and angles I learn after each new post since I rarely get critique or honest feedback nowadays. ;u; But thank you! One thing I've been told about in my comics ironically contradicts your advice "You make the backgrounds too detailed and it distracts readers way too easily. Just make backgrounds pretty much blank most of the time." w @;; But I fully get you! I actually feel bad since this is such a bad mistake on my part even if it's my first time doing a background entirely myself.;; But your input is helpful! I actually noticed it before you told me actually XD I usually see /all/ of my mistakes after I post-- ahaha;; But the explanation of that technique is helpful! Thank you.

That advice you got seems about the same as mine, just more extreme. Over-detailed backgrounds are distracting, but making them all blank is overkill. The important thing is that they draw the eye to the important parts instead of distracting the reader, and provide just enough information for the reader to have a good sense of the setting, action, and mood. Often, you don't need a lot, especially if you employ establishing shots.

YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HARD IT WAS TO MAKE. I had to search for a stock,slowly,very slowly use it as a reference,pick the right colors (I ended up just using a color layer) then air brush tool adjustments and sjkhkfdj and even then I had to try to use a base- kill me please-
