Description
In memory of a loving husband, father, brother, son, friend and mentor... my Uncle Louwrens Abrahama van der Merwe, who died on 7 October 2008 in a cruel and very unnecessary way. [link]---------------------------------------------------------------
I uploaded this combination on request - a few of you guess suggested that these two captures would look great together as they do belong together.
It was taken on our way to Plettenberg Bay, South Africa and we had to stop for some annoying road works near Coalsberg, so we all got out to look at the sky and this is what we stared at!

I like it. The images go well together. The flares around the sun add an interesting colour and effect, and the reflections of the people on the top of the car are a good touch. It kind of looks like they're watching a rocket launch or something...

Very interesting but what is in the top photo? Is that a plane or ? or some really strange clouds?

Thank you, glad you like it Yeah, It was a jet that passed right before I took the picture - still not sure what you call the cloudy smoke they leave behind when it's really cold....but yeah, it's a plane

I was wondering and you must have fairly close, by looking at the trail so it must have taking off since it was going at a steep altitude. I have no idea what they call it either so I guess any word is will work.
You never can tell with weather - I have some photos (not the best quality but who cares) of some really strange weather that I'll be uploading in a few days.
One was in the morning I looked out the window and I've never been in a tornado but never saw clouds that looked actually beautiful, but dangerous. So rushed and couldn't decide, camcorder or camera - so I took both.
It was a tornado that was starting to form and touched down about 3 miles or so from my house.
I love cloud formations since there is so much art and beauty if you really look at them, so unless a person really understands cloud formations you never know. That's what I was thinking when I saw the top half - maybe some kind of bad weather or something I don't know..but I'm gald you did the the split of the photo.
It becomes difficult to understand some photos since the photographer is the one that really knows - but the way you showed both, well it made sense and something that I'll have to experiment with. A person can never learn/know or have enough ideas...nice work ( I realy love the split photos of the dog) it makes the scene larger...I think that leads to more imagination when looking at the photo and composition.

a tornado? wow! I've been lucky enough never to see a tornado, I don't really know if I'd like to see one. Here in South Africa we don't get that bad weather - not Hurricanes, not Tornado's, not Tropical Storms, not even natural disasters like earthquakes - the worst we get is the normal thunder or electric storms. But nothing life threatening if you consider the largest part of the population living in brick houses since the government decided to start the cheap housing project for the poor people living in townships. Looking forward to see the photo's though! Could be interesting
I'm glad you like the combinations
