Description He stands on the holy mountain, where the enchanted clouds cloak the mysteries of heaven from the earth. The pines beneath his feet seem as unchanging as the stern mounts on which they live, but they -- the trees, the mountains, the clouds -- know that he alone could boast transcendence from the ravages of time. After all, it was he who brought it upon the world when he was born.

Time spent on artwork: Approximately three months...'coz I don't have time-stopping powers. ;-p

Medium: Digital, Photoshop CS2, 50:50 between mouse-work and tablet work (I wasn't able to buy a tablet early enough to tablet-render Dialga, unfortunately); clouds were drawn using a tandem of my own cloud brush and a brush from [link]

I used an unfinished version of this for my brother's birthday card. ^^ Background was inspired by Huang Shan of Anhui, China. I am not very happy with how the pines came out, though. I really need to practice drawing plants. <_<;

The most epic Dialga I have seen.

But he's still a pain in explorers of sky >_>

I love Dialga, and I love him even more now <3 Your art is just so finely detailed, and I will definitely aspire after it on my own journey into art.

I have gained a newfound respect for Dialga.
Thus, I find this picture truly epic.

However, Dialga is still a pain to fight in Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky.

His appearance is dazzling. This picture brings Avatar to mind. (let me note that I mean that in the best way possible, lest I offend you should you dislike Avatar). This fellow truly looks like a time lord, dressed in traditional attire, but that which dazzles with a plasmic, futuristic look, and is adorned with metallic details and alien-looking headgear. He truly appears to be a meeting of past and future. And every part of dialga is included somewhere, down to the pattern of the pokemon's toes on his shoes, but in such a complex way that it would take one all night to find all the references. He stands in a glory that would put the original pokemon to shame. Commendable.

Dialga and his sword Zaman (which means time, as in an era), the Sword of Ages.

Damn, this is nice work! His armor/tunic/whatever you call it is very well done.

I can't find anything to offer constructive criticism for, either...

I have drawn humanized versions of the dragon trio, but I'd like to warn you that my Palkia is a female. You can see all of them in this sub-gallery: [link] . I'm very happy you want me to do illustrations, but I'm also extremely sorry that I would have to turn it down for now. My academics are taking a heavy toll on my time, and I already have a major illustration project for another friend of mine, so yeah. Thank you for asking, though.

Jeez, Antarel!! What can you NOT do!? Every single detail in this is PERFECT! I wish I could see it full-size...
The background IS ironic. And that's cool how the way his hand is gripping the sword resembles his "paw." Clever!!
I really like his pose. The robe looks really cool from the side view, I like it that way. VERY neat.
The warrior of time shall KEEL you all!!

if there's anything to improve in it, it's the colors, they are a bit too burnt.

wow he looks so much differnt then in the three dragons of sinnoh. do they all have second forms? and will ou ever a gijinka arceus? by the way i love this! you made a great back round thats not to fancy to take away from the feel of dialga

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Antarel In reply to shadowthedemon5566 [2009-09-25 11:54:39 +0000 UTC]

Actually, the robe he wears here is just a slightly modified form of the "Cosmic Covenant" robe. But yeah, both Palkia and Dialga have two forms of attire: the casual ones in "Dragons of Sinnoh" and the more formal ones in "Cosmic Covenant". Giratina's Altered Forme gijinka, though, could only be found in one of the story illustrations I have made.

I will do gijinka Arceus, yes, but not any time soon because pending artworks are piling up. I'm glad you like the background; it was inspired by Chinese ink paintings if you want to know.

I've been waiting for this one! Dialga looks absolutely amazing (as always!) against the backdrop you chose for him, it's like he's stepping out of a painting. I also really like the paragraph in italics at the beginning, it explains Dialga's role very, very well.

Antarel In reply to chaosisd [2009-08-16 23:28:23 +0000 UTC]

I decided to use "mountain light" instead of the original planned "sunrise/sunset" 'coz the orange-ish colors ended up making him look...evil. Although I love his Primal form, I don't want Primal Dialga at the moment. x_x The background itself is actually a pun, you know. (Did you catch it?) I'm also very happy you liked the description; maybe this was how he appeared in Makura's Pantheon book? ^_~

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chaosisd In reply to Antarel [2009-08-17 10:25:41 +0000 UTC]

I think he looks a lot better with the mountain light background as well. I don't think I caught the pun, but I couldn't help but wonder if he's near a certain valley in this piece, either that or somewhere on the sacred mountain. Oh yes, I'd like to think that this is how he appeared in the book, definitely!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Antarel In reply to chaosisd [2009-08-17 11:03:48 +0000 UTC]

Ah, the "certain valley" and "holy mountain" are quite near. After all, I drew inspiration from the revered Huang Shan of China for the background. ^^ I'm glad you think so, too; I'd probably have that book in mind when I do Giratina's solo and Palkia's revamp. ;-p

*baps self* Yeah, I did catch the name of the mountains you used for the background, but I don't know why I didn't say anything. I can't wait to see Giratina's solo and Palkia's solo revamp, and I hopeGiratina's solo won't give you anymore trouble like before.

Just absolutely amazing beyond words with top-notch professional quality. The shading and fabrics are superb (well...I kinda already knew since I've been watching it's development as you posted them). One detail I like in particular that I haven't seen until now is how his right hand is mimicing Dialga's "paw" to a fairly well extent. Every time I look into the mist I have a feeling of trying to find the unpause button to watch the rest of the cutscene.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Antarel In reply to NinRac [2009-08-16 11:03:04 +0000 UTC]

^/////^ Thanks! I'll admit I looked into some detail shots of Star Wars in-set costume fabrics for some inspiration. I'm glad you think the claw-like paws of his right hand is all right; drawing hands give me headache. x_x Ah, the misty mountains...my landscape drawing skills came back with a vengeance once my tablet came into the picture. ^^ (I do remember mentioning in one of my older artworks that I was more of a landscape artist before I decided to develop my anime-ish art.)

NinRac In reply to Antarel [2009-08-16 19:42:37 +0000 UTC]

^___^ YW ^_^

No harm in examining great works by as a starting point for inspiration of a costume design. Yeah, the claw for the hand works really well for Dialga since it has that paw shape. Yeah, I think you mentioned it recently...but it shows very well. Definitely worth being proud of.
