Description
Just as living turtles do today, a female Archelon ischyros crawls ashore to lay her eggs during the late Cretaceous period. The appearance of tears is actually excess sea salt expelled by lachrymal salt glands, which also helps to clear sand as well as salt from the eyes. I looked at a lot of photography of modern day nesting turtles, especially at twilight hour for inspiration of lighting and mood.Digital painting created in Photoshop.

I especially love the addition of tears coating their eyes. It's common when sea turtles are on land they get covered in snot and tears.

Some Sea Turtles like the Leatherback and Archelon do not have solid shells.
Theirs is more like a framework of bone with thick, leathery skin stretched over them.
It seems that some Sea Turtles are evolving their shells away.
If this is true, and they one day lose their shells completely, then evolving live birth might be possible.
