Description Avatar II Challenge here

This is my pre-visual for the alien transport.

I've been studying James Clynes first Gnomon DVD, Futuristic Set Design and Feng Zhu's online tutorials here and used what I've learned from their tutorials in this concept. They both say that with most pre-visual work for film production deadlines are incredibly tight to pull off and sometimes have to deliver what they have ready or not.

Thats what I do now with my work- challenge myself to "act as if" I'm working as a concept artist for film/game production. This took me just over 11hrs.

I've also realised from recent work and just the way I think, that I'm a designer first, artist second.

Oh wow, I really love this. It's not often you see something that really jumps out and screams "new" and "strange" at you. This does.

Hey, thank you for visiting my gallery and commenting. I'm glad u like this design. Shape played the overall selling point in the end as it should. Took me a tad bit to realise this though lol

Sweet design man, now that's something aliens would use as transports

It's interesting how you took elements from photos to incorporate in your drawing. I'll have to try that one time. And that's correct being a designer first means that you reference a lot of things and work on the concept first before drawing. But as being an artist first, sometimes you can just draw straight from your imagination XD

Cheers buddy. When u use photostock as textures or for a matte painting it's always important to remember that the tool (photostock) needs to work for you, not yourself being a slave to the photo. So basically you've got to look for design elements within a photo that you can use and manipulate. I normally jst look for interesting shapes to imply detail.

I fink it's important to always use reference material when creating anything. Working from the imagination I fink shows the extent of your visual library from all the countless hours of study and practice.

That's something I have to try once in a while. I don't really have the eyes for shapes as I just create things with references.

There's no right or wrong to creating art, but its always good to explore new ways of working

You know, the artist in you is fantastic, too .

In fact ,artist, designer... makes no difference to me as it's all art. How you can tease anyone's imagination and paint your ideas over any type of canvas... the outcome is what counts to me; make a dream start in anyone's head. And you know I love your designs and creations.

Interesting point dude. People always like to categorise themselves with something that way they'll feel apart of a bigger picture which also helps to shape us and define who we are. I know myself I'm gearing away frm the hobby zone now and into the working market which is why it's important for moi to slot myself into an area as to not stray away frm my dreams. Acting as if im in my dream job. Then again dreams change as we evolve so I'll probably define myself along with my work as something else at a later stage lol

I understand your point. It's true my opinion might happen to change if I switched one day from hobbying to the market. At least it could be quite possible. I don't know in fact. But you're quite right and I think categorizing oneself helps others understand what they can expect from you...

Lol I was thinking clothes peg or a stationary clip. Honestly, I was a tad paranoid when I was designing this transport because the ship design seemed familiar and I couldn't think why. It's probably a mixture from above lol

haha yeah, oh well it still looks good.. i'm not sure how aerodynamic it would be.. i guess it depends on which way you're flying!
