Wow.

This is a great piece, the relections and shape of the river, the perspective of the landscape, the clouds in particular have an edge of alien reality to them, the warmth of the light seems totally realistic but this leads me to my only crititism; the shadows. They aren't right some how, I think the main spire casts a shadow too wide for it's size.

Apart from that this is an amazing example of fantastical realism. Man would it be experience to stand on the edge of that waterfall and watch the local star rise.

Peace

zen-x

PS the enlarge button on your website doesn't work for me, which is annoying, I would like to see more of your work in detail.

i don't really comment on Daily Deviations, simply because what i would say has already been said. However, i've been playing around with photoshop and i think this is AMAZING. i couldn't do this because i'm not that good, or experienced or whatnot. but this....this is gooood. soooooo gooooood. very wonderful.

Because that's how people's work gets stolen. And given that he's already had to put up with some twerp trying to steal his identity to try to make money off his work, I can understand some due caution.

20% seems a bit drastic though....
50% would have been reasonable.
you don't have to get so snotty - I was just asking.

I wasn't being snotty. I answered your question. Do you always get defensive when people answer the questions you ask? And 20% is quite reasonable. As it is, it's 1000 width, which is plenty reasonable for screen viewing or for putting on your desktop.

Schieben In reply to dygel [2004-09-10 16:39:18 +0000 UTC]

not mine....I run 1792x1344

it seemed snotty to me - i've gotten SO many snotty replies when the subject of "copyright" or "stealing" art comes up.

sigh.

if it wasn't - then I apologize.

PS: No, I've never been accused of stealing art - I just complain when
someone ruins something beautiful with a copyright in the centre of a peice.

Quite another masterpiece from the Gary Hehe yes, you did a nice job on this one, it definitely has an otherwordly ethereal feel, the lush tree's mixed with the mountaneous terrain, along with the more than unique cloud formations most certainly add the original feel to the image, this is something i always find impressive with your images; you have a great sense in the way of making your images truly believale in the terms of being a different world or realm completely.

Theres a good mix of placid & dramatic visuals that give the feel for this piece, namely being there is definitely a sense of drama in the sky, where as it contrasts nicely with the serene & stillness of the reflective waters, also the tree's feel peaceful while mixed into a scenery of a vast & rocky mountainscape, the thing that makes this all work is how well you are at blending in, conceptually & techniquely, top notch stuff.

My next point is your obviously well done colour scheme, from what i can see it basically flawless, the best thing is your lighting really does have atmosphere to it, thus giving the image an overall feel to it, you have captured the sunset with your warm peachy colours, & although it might have looked even more interesting more saturated & with more contrast, the warm slightly desaturated feel actually adds to the evening affect, which is what you where going for i presume.

Detail is usually a key point in images, & again, this is a strong point to the image, all the brush strokes you have spent so long on pay off in the image, when zoomed out it intricately weaves an image full of incredible texture & detail. But detail isnt everything right, your work on perspective & composition is well done, (again ) plus the concept is definitely a treat.

But technicals isnt everything to an image, right? No matter how the composition, colours, texture, & anything else you name along the same lines, the main thing that matters all up is how, as an artist or a viewer you feel the art, how it affects your emotions, feelings & thoughts. As ive said to be people before, you have to literally immerse yourself into an image to appreciate it truly. Well, what do i see in the image?! What do i feel in the image? These are the questions i would expect someone commenting to ask themselves before commenting, there is no point in making a comment if you havent even experienced the image in all its entity.

Personally, i feel in this image desolation mixed with signs of life, it feels perhaps that there where ancient times in which people lived on this planet, but now that time has passed, the rock structure is as implied; a structure. However it is blended like the terrain itself, this is like a signal, when all fades away & becomes part of the past, considering these mountaneous slopes could be thousands of years old, the sentinel like structure has passed away to become one with natures surroundings; Like a ruin, rusting into the dust of the ground. The lake & tree's are definitely a contrast to this notion, the streams are placid & vibrant in form, it is not murky or dried up, but flowing afresh, the waterfall accentuates the fact that the water is indeed flowing anew. The tree's are like lifeforms among the barren dust, they survive & grow in a place that seems unharbouring & awkward, the mountains arent green or lush, they are dry & seemingly desolate besides from the tree's.

Its a sense of new life, it seems like life is entering land that has none, or life is starting a fresh after such a long time, A reneweal of times lost perhaps. There is something very impacting about the waterfall, how it falls into a seemingly vast abyss of darkess, it brings the sense the there was a past, there is a present, & a dark future ahead of it all, that maybe the life of current times will waste away, just like the past, but it is simple that everything fades through time, & this image makes you feel the cycle of life, a cycle of fading & renewal, like rain in the desert or life growing in darkness, nothing lasts forever.

In fact, i think the reflection in the water & cloud formation emphasise this even more, the clouds seem to swirl in a fashion of which small cloud grows into a large cloud & large gloud becomes small cloud, & although this is most probably just for perspective reasons, it does invoke this sense, a sense of life diminishing & life growing. The reflection in the water seems to reflect distant times, it reflects like the surrounding teem with life, & a clear blue or dark blue sky.

Of course, the wonderful thing about art is people can feel it in all sorts of ways, whether my interpretation was like yours at all or not, the thing is that anyone can feel it in any way really, & i think when art is done at prime quality like this, the results for intepretation & immersing ones self is an endless capability.

Excellent work G!
