These three images were commissioned by a car modification company around 12 months ago. They were engineering a hybrid Subaru Impreza called the “Type-25” which to cut a long story short was a pretty scary car.[link]
What they needed were some marketing images, I suggested that we show the car in different settings and from different angles to show off its dynamic intentions. Rather than fly the car out to different locations around the world, I painted Hyper-real backdrops and gave the car motion from two studio photographs and an action track day shot.
The images were created to fairly limited timescales, taking about 5-6 hours each, which kind of suited the rough, limited brush stroke feel to the backgrounds – the images were all 5k wide (for print purposes).
“TOYKO” - shows the car running down a Japanese high street
“YOKOHAMA” – illustrates the car stretching its legs on the Tokyo to Yokohama highway.
“NEVADA” – Shows the car in a different environment – throwing up dust and dirt at good old sunset.

Dude... this friggin owns. Necada and Tokyo especially look photorealistic at first glance, it's not until you take a good look that you see it's painted. Excellent job, very nice work especially for the limited time given to you.
By the way, did you use photoshop or something else for the paintings?

wow. thats insane. i've always wondered at the pictures of cars in the magazines, whether they're just photomanips or actual digital paintings. and now i know. its crazy insane talented ppl like you who make this stuff. this is incredibly impressive. not only were you able to paint the cars exactly the same from the reference pics, but you also added the reflections in that make it all look so natural. youre awesome.

How much did you get paid for this (if you don't mind my asking)? I've always wondered how much professional-grade commercial art goes for. The cars look excellently done-- not copy & pasted-looking at all. You could've fooled me had you said you painted them from scratch. Nice work.

jaw droping stuff, the neon lights are insane, and the reclections of the cars. it is hard to believe the backgroung was painted, congratulations on a great job in such a time scale

The car seems to be hyrdo planing in the Tokyo versions. Other versions are superb and you background work outstanding as expected.
