"Come now. You'll be fine. It's not that far." Arwin reassured his baby daughter, who was sitting on the edge of a snow covered bolder. His mate had come along to help in any way she could. Serina now leaned closer to Fliz. "He's right dear. Four feet isn't very far at all." The little blue dragon glanced down at the ground and swallowed before peering back up at her father. "What ifs I crash, Daddy?" The green dragon chuckled as he leaned down and rubbed his nose against hers. "The worse that could happen to you are a few scrapes and bruises. You won't even feel the fall, it's so short. Let's just try not to crash today anyway. As long as your wings aren't damaged, they'll carry you." He moved aside for Serina, who grabbed a paw-full of snow and let it pour back out. "You've got all this snow to land in also. You just have to be brave little one." Whining, baby Fliz looked down the side of the rock as she hesitantly unfolded her wings. She slunk to the other side of the rock and took some time to determine what to do. The young dragon was suddenly running back to the edge in a wild attempt to conquer her uncertainty. At the last moment she tried to stop, but ended up sliding over the edge of the rock. Fliz gave a frightened little squeak as she tumbled into the snow. "There. See, that wasn't so bad." Arwin chuckled as he raised his head some. After plucking herself out of the hole she had made, Fliz made her way back to where she could climb up on the rock and gave it another try. Her next attempt went much smoother. With a short sprint, Fliz vaulted herself off the edge of the bolder and plunged headfirst into the drift below. Over and over she leapt into the snow with more and more confidence. The little dragon became distracted by the little game she had invented, and started to forget that this was a flying lesson. She was surprised to almost run into her mother's snout after scurrying up the side of the rock. "You're forgetting about your wings dear." Serina reminded her daughter. Fliz huddled into a tight little form with her head bowed. "I sorry Mommy. I'll try my wings now." The orange dragon smiled warmly as she raised her head, allowing baby Fliz to continue practicing. This time when she reached the edge of the bolder, Fliz unfolded her wings and flexed them experimentally. She watched them move as she brought them up and down slowly. Once she was confident enough about the movement of her wings, Fliz bounded off the rock while driving them down simultaneously. Her normal fall immediately reversed as she was lifted back into the air. She sailed until she had run out of momentum. Fliz's tail scraped over the rim of the previous hole before she plowed into a new one. The young dragon hopped around gleefully once she was free of the latest depression she'd made. "I fly! I fly!" "You're not getting high enough yet. Right now you've only learned how to glide." Her father stated with a chuckle.
