Hi everyone! This is not a landscape, though there is one mushroom nevertheless.This is what I've been working on this week. I'm not that much interested in painting people, so this is one of my first portraits. I focused on trying to make it look "about right" in terms of anatomy and proportions, therefore design is very simple.
Would be great if you comment about what you feel wrong and right in this picture =]

Your skin coloring is pretty good! It looks very soft, I'm surprised you managed to get that down so well on one of your first tries. She's a beautiful mushroom elf! I like that you also added blue light from the left. The color of her hair fits really well with the red of the mushroom.
With anatomy, I think her neck is relatively long. And the shading in the neck is quite pink/red. I'm not sure, but the left shoulder looks a bit off. Probably feels that it's quite small. I'm not entirely sure.
In any case, great work and I'm super happy to see you try new things as well! ;D

I feel like she taking a sideway glance at the viewer without even moving her eyeball. If you look at her eye and slowly look down to her cheek, you can get the sense of it a little.
A little bit work with lighting on the eye may bring it more to life and give it more depth.
Proportion wise it does looks good to me, I also get the sense that her head is facing slightly to the left while her body is facing front which is kinda interesting.
Her hair gave me the impression that it's floating slightly above the shoulder cos of the shadow there.
If anything at all, perhaps the ear is a little thick and uniform but it's still look alright with the rest of her feature.
Overall it look great and even if, as you said; a simple design it's still amazing, I wouldn't be able to paint a portrait like this. Also, I find that this simple design to be refreshing, cos most portrait I saw have lots of fancy things going on.
It'll definitely be interesting to see figures in your wonderful landscape.

Thanks for a thoughtful critique! I can't understand your point about the eye movement, but I agree that eye could have some more color & light elements.
The hair shadow is perhaps too short, that's why it looks strange, definitely can see this now.
Yes, I will be trying to make scenes with figures in the future, just have to work on anatomy and faces before that =]

I mean that sometime when you look at a portrait like in a museum, you get a sense that the eye in the portrait is looking at you.
Not often I can get that sense like that from a digital work, maybe cos most of them are facing the viewer instead of sideway.
This is perhaps the first time I get this sense from a digital portrait.
I guess it's painted well enough to create that kind of illusion.

Wow, this is strange, I've never experienced this. I've been to Louvre, saw Mona Lisa, and just couldn't feel this effect people notice when they look at the painting. It's just a lot of brush strokes, they can't move

like you're doing now, i try to get out of my comfort zone every time i do something new. my fear is that i won't progress if i don't.
you already have an incredible landscape aesthetic, and i think that painting these portraits and people will improve your landscapes as well.
one day, i'd love to see you start combining the two. you have the talent and the commitment to hard work already on lock.

Love brush strokes and art style,but.....that knotted tank top....horrid.
Why not make some texture(mushy bits)to cover her up.
Other idea which might work better is to make her more urban looking.(cocky expresion, sharper lighting and probable full body with jeans.)

Thanks! I don't really care about the character, my goal was to make an "about OK" face and head, so everything else is tertiary. This is the reason I painted the head and shoulders view and didn't bother with the design

Love the greenish-blueish hair on her.
My main issue is that the only "mushroomy" part of her design is the the top, but then again, the only reason Fungi is pretty to look at is the giant red glowing top.

Thanks for a nice comment! I didn't design the char very thoroughly, since the main focus was to get a somewhat believable human proportions. Perhaps I can develop the design and add some more mushroom elements to her appearance, but this is for the next time
