Thank you! I can do much better though
Btw does being an illustrator suck in Netherlands too? I mean if it was not for internet foreign commissions would there be enough work for you in your own country/city to survive?

You're welcome! I'll take a look at the rest of your gallery
I'd really like to be a concept artist, but I'm afraid I'll have to move to the USA if I really want too. I survive here as a comic artist. I'm glad the comic culture is growing in the Netherlands Where are you from then?

I'm from Russia. Being a concept artist is almost out of the question here too. The comic culture is in near-death state for about 15 years also. The publishers have just started with some of the good Marvel series collections and significant novels like Watchmen and Sin City from time to time (usually when a movie comes in). The stuff is hardcover and rather pricy. And there's a lot of shitty foreign manga translations too.
There was just a single local comic book published this year. And none last year. And none the year before it. So I guess it's getting better
I live in a rather small provincial town so I have to do whatever my agent finds in Moscow (mostly what is ripped from the cold dead hands of local illustrators there and it is not much: some magazine illustrations, a few children's books and cheap colouring books. It's nearly enough not to starve to death if you tend to collect mushrooms and hunt small forest animals for food If I didn't work as an architect it would certainly be not worth it

Wow, that sounds much worse than here in the Netherlands! At first I lived in a provincial town too, but I moved to a big city in the middle of the country (Utrecht), which is much better! Haven't you ever considered moving?

Moving to the capital looks like changing one dead rat for another: The payment will be almost the same as I'm already working with Moscow publishers (there are just a few major publishers in the country and they all are situated in the capital). There probably will be more work but all the prices in Moscow are about five times higher than my city. So technically I will end up doing five times more work just to pay the rent and buy stuff.
Well it actually looks like changing a dead rat for half-rotten dead rat because in my town I at least have my own apartment I don't have to pay rent for. And buying apartment in the capital is almost a fairy tale - the prices are outrageous and will take me 4-5 lifetimes to achieve if something magical won't happen. Not all of russian movie or music stars can afford buying a flat in Moscow
